Holidays - December 2006

A lot of companies have stopped throwing holiday parties or have cheapened them down a lot. So, is the place where yuo work thrwing one? If so, has it changed from last year? Is it in the office or at a venue/restaurant? Is there alcohol provided, a free open bar, or do you need to buy alcohol? Is this different from last year?

I would like some ideas for a christmas gift that is tasteful yet inexpensive. I have bought them a nice box of chocolate for the past 2 years and I feel like I'm being predictable and boring. I would like to keep in mind that they have 3 teenagers also. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I got my two little nephews, A blow dart gun,(for the 8 year old),who has alot of energy,and loves guns,and it is all made of foam,so he can't hurt his little brother,and for the youngest (6 year old) who has a deep passion for animals,and wants to be a vet one day,a realistic looking stuffed lion. Do you think we have come to the point of being too politically correct...to the point we are censoring ourselves? I think saying "Happy Holidays" is generic, and that you should say , Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, (or whatever religion one celebrates, or none) to the person you are speaking to celebrates. I celebrate Christmas, but when my jewish friends say Happy Hanukkah to me, I'm not offended, and vice versa.

Any thoughts/opinions on this? Have we just whittled away at the true meaning of everything anymore?

I want to have a Kid's New Year's Eve party because every year it seems that we drag them to someone else's house to watch all the adults drink and tell stupid stories or we hire a babysitter for them while we go out and drink. This year I want my children to feel special and included in the celebration of the New Year without having their parents hang out and drink. I don't know how to clarify that on the invitations. With Christmas less than 2 weeks away I am starting to get scared that there is going to be no Christmas for him this year and nothing under the tree. I have not a cent to my name right now. I tried the salvation army and they said they could not help. The local toy drive turned me away because they closed their list, another toy drive said we make $10 dollars over the income level needed to apply. I am really getting scared because my son is 5 and he still believes in Santa. Can someone please tell me where I can get help, or if someone is willing to help please let me know. I'm buying something for my boyfriend's little brother and sister a gift this year. I got some of their gifts , but I want to put something out side , that is a small gift on thier gift bgs.
