Does the 5 year old have access to a computer? I recall when my sons where 5, that they enjoyed to play games. We started using various learning/games for the PC at that age.

Mainly we used games from "Jump Start". They had a blast and they actually learned quite a bit.

Obviously we have done many other things to facilitate their learning, but I do believe "Jump Star" was a huge help in the early years. It was fun enough to even play as parents.

They have many games and many different age/grade levels.

Otherwise, I would recommend some other games...better yet, a Soccer Set which consists of Soccer Ball, Shin Guards and a goal. Get them hooked on Soccer!!!

Something else that a 5 year old truly wants...attention...give him the gift of time, if possible!!! Do something that they want to do and just get down on the ground and play on his level.

Kinda depends toys and action figures are great if you know what is his TV intestests are.

If you don't know, the holy three things for the children (I have a boy and nephews) are the Batman, TEEN TITANS, and POWER RANGERS (yes they are back again; mystic force, SPD....imagine CSI type shows except for teen ninjas who have spells now).

Thomas the Train is important to the toddlers and if he likes Trains. Spongebob is still hot for the wee people too. We lucked out one year and my nephew hated all of his gifts except this cheap little Patrick watch we got him from burger king!!! Oh and yeah, kids don't like the Burger King (with good reason he's creepy) so don't buy any of those cheap Xbox games this year. A good video game would be a fun one, like Toy Story or Jumpstart (pre-K).

The standards apply too; tinker toys, lincoln logs and legos are hugely popular. Board games are inexpensive, but there are great kid versions of mononpoly (less dollar amounts but still lots of counting), and the like.

My neices and nephews are all getting MOON BOOTS this year. It's not a piece of clothing. The are like mini trampolines strapped to the feet, so the kids can bounce when they walk.

Best of Luck,
B

My first son, at the age of 5, was very content with his gameboy, movies and music (KidsBop). My middle son, at the age of 5, got a real toolbox and tools. It depends on the child and how much you are willing to spend.

Stock in a company !!

Never to early to get them interested in their financial future, and no time like now to help them learn and even teach yourself a few things. Some companies you can get into for as little as $50.oo !!!

You can even get stock directly from companies. Check out "direct purchase plans" on the web and see if there is a company that interests you. Simply call them and request their prospectus and investor package, ITS FREE !!

Nothing like getting your kids and even their friends on the right track financially. Get them interested in THEIR OWN future !!

Gameboy Advanced. Stong as heck, holds up to abuse, games can be bought to fit his age as he gets older. Goes anywhere, reasonably cheap. All boys love them.
