If you have the means and the money you could have it at your house if you dont mind cleaning up. I recently threw a 50th Halloween B-Day party for my mom for 50 people, I dont know how many employees you have but if its somewhere bt 50-100 you should be ok to manage for yourself with a few people to help. I had little games and prizes like "guess how many candy corns" and they one a gift basket assigned with it. a guess which movie from a scene. it was fairly inexpensive and everyone had a blast they could interact with eachother because they werent forced to sit down at a table and eat, we mainly had finger foods and a few covered dishes with themed tableware. I would have to say a recent x-mas party i went to for about 200 people wasnt very much fun because we had to sit at tables and only communicate with those people next to us. If you have the space to accomidate your employees, do little foods, some fun games and a few prizes.

My wife has a beauty salon and she does something like what Catwoman mentioned. I'm in the RV business, so I bring home that night a motorhome to drive everyone & setup a bar inside the vehicle, as I am the DD that night. She takes everyone out to dinner, an averaged price place, but different every year; then gives each one $100 and it's off to the mall where they are given an set time to shop... and they all end-up back at the motorhome and the one that brings back receipts closest to $100 gets a prize ($20 - $50) and it has to be for them, not someone else. Then it's off for desert & coffee/dinner drinks or, some times in the past we've all hit a late movie. If anyone has too much to drink or too tired, then they get driven home...often being serenaded as they walk up to their front door by the rest of the crew!

It would depend upon how many employees you have, but potlucks always work out good. Rent a hall somewhere, and say last names that begin with A-G bring main course. H-N appetizers. O-U desserts and so on and so forth. This way they can show off what they can make!

What about taking a survey from your employees? They might just rather have an extra bonus instead of going out for dinner. Give gift cards to grocery stores and the what not.

Try Santa's helpers and have everyone draw a number from 1-18 then let them buy one or two gifts for someone that age. Take the gifts to a children's shelter or your local protective services office for children who come into care at that time. Have Vegas night and play games with cash donating the money to the charity chosen by the winner beforehand. ask each person to come with a brief skit on their charity and why they chose them Have everyone pick a number 1-5 and then bring in bag or two of food to feed that many people for one day non perishable that included breakfast lunch and dinner or just one meal with people picking a number and a meal ie a family of 3 for lunch. then donate the food to a local pantry pajama time; have everyone draw again and let them buy PJ's for a boy or girl, woman or man and then buy PJ's in whatever size they choose. take them to a residential shelter or red cross ask everyone to find the most unique blanket, throw, quilt or comforter they can find along with $1. have a vote or judging panel and the winner takes the money-all the quilts get donated to a homeless shelter Hope this helps

My aunt works for the local dentist office only 3 employees plus the dentist. He did something really cool last year for them. He told them not schedule any appts past noon, and then once all patients were gone, he took all 3 to the mall. He gave them each like $100 and said they had to follow 3 rules. Rule 1-you must spend the $$ on yourself, since he knew they were all moms and probably never pampered themselves. Rule 2-you have to show him your purchases & return any cash not spent, which meant no cheating. Rule 3-you have 2 hours.
My aunt loved it, cuz she got to buy some things for herself that she really wanted, but would never have bought for herself.

have a party catered at your house or at work. Give them a list of other places to eat in the area and let them vote on it. Good luck.

Have homemade buffet. Make everyone bring one of their homemade dishes past down in their family. Presents go to the dollar store and buy small things and stuff in bags.

Stakes or Steaks?

I'd complain too if I had to eat a stake?

Potluck buffet style at the office. You provide the meats... and everyone brings a side. That way each person can bring a dish they like.
