I'm 19 and I don't even remember any specific Christmas celebrations before age 8 or 9. I know my family did something, but I really don't remember anything. Don't worry too much about what your baby won't even remember.
One nice thing is I have a cute Christmas teddy bear with the year 1987 on it and an ornament that says "Elizabeth's 1st Christmas" from my first celebration. Something like that is nice to look back on.

My son was the same age at his first Christmas. He cared more about the empty boxes and paper than he did about what was in them.Don't spend a fortune,it really doesn't matter to them at that age.I agree with the baby's first Christmas ornament, get one you can put his picture in from his first Christmas day.I have one for my son,it is a tradition for us every year to get an ornament for him as a memory. He is now 19,so he has quite a collection and everyone of them means something to him. Will his wife let him put the Ninja turtles ornament on their tree?I certainly hope so.

Lamaze toys are excellent, I got one for my GrandDaughter is now 5 months old. DVDs for American Sign Language, they help the child to "communicate" with the Parents before they can actually"talk" I got some for my two Grandchildren(at their Mother's request) The older one is now 3 yrs old and he has quite a vocabulary of signs he can do and we want to teach the baby too so they can help others in the future at Daycare, etc wherever children are that perhaps can't speak and when they are Adults this will help them to help others who have to use sign language to communicate. I got them off Amazon.com in case you are wondering where to locate them. So they are already Bi-Lingual just with signs NOT spoken language.

When my son was one I took his hand prints put paint on them and cut out a heart out of card board, but his hand print on the construction paper and cut it and glued it to the cardboard. I ran a hole with yarn and made it into his first Christmas thing we put on the tree.
One thing you might want to do is introduce him to Santa now!! If you wait until he is older he will be scared of him.
Also take tons of pictures because this is a Christmas you will always remember.
A tradition you might want to do with him that I do with my son is bake a birthday cake for jesus and have it Christmas Eve.

Make sure you pick up their first Christmas ornament. You could make this a tradition and get them one every year.
