A lot of companies have stopped throwing holiday parties or have cheapened them down a lot. So, is the place where yuo work thrwing one? If so, has it changed from last year? Is it in the office or at a venue/restaurant? Is there alcohol provided, a free open bar, or do you need to buy alcohol? Is this different from last year?

We just had a small party--extended lunch time. (approximately 30 of us) We ordered pizzas and sodas. We all chipped in a bought our boss a small gift...I think it was Godiva chocolates. Having Christmas/office parties that are given outside of the work area should have the spouses/significant others invited, then you are talking costly expenses
Just a lunch is good enough. We spend enough time with the people we work with...Christmas time/holiday time is for family.

Our company has done the same exact thing for 14 of the last 15 Christmases- we have lunch at a very nice French Restaurant. We don't get to order off the menu- we pre-select from 2 or 3 appetizers and main courses, and then we can chose whatever we want for dessert. They do serve wine, but as it's a lunch time party, and we all have to drive home (suburban area, no public transportation), no one over indulges. It's nice, and some people complain that it's the same place every year but I enjoy it since it's the only time I'd eat french food, or eat at a restaurant that pricey.

We are having a Christmas lunch and gift exchange at the office. Most of the people I work with have kids and would rather spend their free time with them. Our bosses would rather give us larger bonuses than throw a party, and I have to say I would rather have the extra cash!
My uncle owns his own business with his brother, and every year in January the throw a "Grinders Ball" (their company grinds wood into chips, hence the name of the party). It is held in January so all of the employees can spend the holiday with their families. They provide tons of beer and all the bar-be-que you can eat! They also have a live band and a D.J. for when the band goes on break.

I've only been at this job a few months and it is a small company, but he is taking us all out. We are working a half a day and then going out. My last office job, they ordered in food and if we wanted alcohol we had to buy it.

same as last year.. in the office with alcohol provided, and really good food. I get to plan all office events so i go all out. The boss man does not give me a budget.

Yup, it was great! You're right, however, it has been scaled down. When I first started here about 7 years ago, it was at a Hilton and we were allowed to bring a date and it was black tie. NOW, it's in the reception and conference floor of our building and we are not allowed to bring guests. They do put on a great spread, though, lots of yummy food and BOOZE!!

Our employees are too far spread out for a party, so we get $50 gift cards to a nice local restaurant or mall.

No, but I don't think it's religion related. I think it's due to the number of employees. I work here, and my boss works here...and that's it. A holiday party would mean not having to look at his face like I have to do all day, every day.
