Bad spelling is a pet peeve of mine. I cannot believe how often I find misspelled words in emails, postings, even here on this site and spell check is available! Why don't people take the extra 5 seconds to check it? When I read something by someone and there are a zillion misspells it totally turns me off. WTH?

I'm invited to an occasion where the dress code is "business casual". What exactly should I wear? I feel like this is silly to ask, but business and casual seem like a contradiction to me.

I waited til there was no one else in the room.

I just wanted to see if I could bring her back to life. Crazy idea I guess but sometimes I feel like I have 'special powers' even though I guess it is just wishful thinking.

Today was grandma-in-law's ex-husband's funeral. This was her 3rd ex, & they were divorced 2 years before I met, Nick
Nick worked for him still, & he was a great guy. We rented our 1st apt from him and his new wife (whom is also a very nice).
W went to his funeral, as did my MIL & SIL (both didn't like him, & probably only went thinking they'd be in the will), & my GIL (who went to say her goodbyes).
We stayed for the hour service, then left after that, but said our condolences to Carly, his widow. She was obviously upset, what with it being her husbands funeral, but she smiled when she saw me & my husband, & we gave her a hug each, & said how sorry we were.
When we left, however, his neice followed us out, & started screaming in the parkinglot at my husbands grandma about how innappropriate it was for us to be there, & it was a knife in the back to the whole family.
Should we not have gone?

I'm truely not intending to offend Asians, I'm just not seeing the problem with 'Oriental'. I DO use "Asians", it was just never explained to me. Can someone please educate me on this one? Thanks!

I care about my friend. I have a lighter that I use to light candles and incense but not for her use to light her cigarettes. She was angry I didn't, she said she wasn't, but I could tell. I'm wondering what people do in cases like this. I did let her use my lighter this morning and I feel bad about it. My grandfather and one of my uncle's died of smoking. I really don't want to add to the number of people who die each year. I'm wondering what you out there do to protect your loved ones? I know that I can't stop her from smoking but I at least can help by not feeding into it, right?

It's gotten to the point where I cannot shop at supermarkets because fools ruin my food-buying experience.
Aisle Cloggers park their carriages in the center of an aisle and then STOP. They take their sweet time looking to see if one brand of peas is 8 cents cheaper than another, oblivious to the fact that shoppers behind them cannot get by.

Even worse is an encounter with Bottleneckers-- you know, two people who see someone they know in an aisle, and again STOP in their tracks and proceed to gab for 20 minutes, heedless of the fact they've effectively set up a roadblock for that entire aisle.

Shoppers, Not Lookers are dire prats who speed out from the end of an aisle into the main lane without first looking to see if anyone is there. I've been broadsided by such fools more times than I care to tell you.

And don't forget Mr. and Mrs. "I'm in line for the register and there are twenty people behind me, but I'm going to run back to aisle 11 and grab those Cheerios on sale."

Seriously, why do I end up with the lazy eyed casheir? I have no problem with her eye, its just that I wouldnt mind being in line with the lady who has to use her stool, or the young kid who needs to be on his cell-phone... Or the really really old lady, who looks like her hands will break as she handles my groceries!

I used to think it was only the older generation that was cheap... my Dad really does leave exactly 15 percent at restaurants! And then you see groups of old ladies leaving CHANGE on the table after having a large meal...
but now I think about it, even lots of my friends who are in their 20s and 30s are stingy tippers.

15%??? NO!!!!! You leave 20% as a bare minimum. If I have even decent service at a restaurant or bar I leave 25% to a third.

I guess it's because I used to be a bartender so I've seen first-hand the effects of cheap tippers (it was only my living on the line, nothing important!). Why don't these people realize that waitstaff and barstaff receive virtually no wage, and make most of their money from tips?
You should not be cheap in ANY aspect of your life. There is nothing worse than a cheap individual.

I think we need a PETA revival, eh? I'm sick of all these gothic animal rights neohippies and their cry-baby music. As if animals even have rights? If an animal just stares at me blankly and doesn't even try to run when I walk up to it with an axe, it deserves to be eaten.

I don't understand why they have the "kick em when they're down" attitude financially speaking. The families of the deceased have enough to deal with in regards to emotional baggage, why screw them over financially on top of that?

My mother is great about giving me and my brother and sister hand-me-downs like really great furnature, art she doesn't want or have space for anymore or other great stuff for around the house. The thing is she always tells me where it should go or how I should use it. I haven't said anything to her because I don't want to sound ungrateful (Because I am Really grateful) but at the same time to be given something as a gift do I have to do what she says with it because she was the one to give it to me? I think I can find a way to get through this as long as I'm not breaking any etiquette rules.
