You are worrying too much about saying and doing the right things. People aren't worrying nearly as much about what you're saying and doing as you are. When meeting older people be polite and helpful. When meeting new peers, or all people for that matter, focus on being a good listener and not on impressing them. By doing that, you will have an opportunity to ask them questions about themselves. Ask questions that are opened ended and that don't have a "yes" or "no" for an answer. For example, "What do you think will be in style this winter?" or "What led you to decide that you want to have a career as a photographer?" That will get them talking and lead to more conversation. They will remember you as a great conversationalist and a nice person! Oh, and be sure to brush up on what are good manners in public and at the table as well as good grooming and clean dress. That will give you confidence.

I think to get the right contact you should look into the eyes while speaking and do not smile without a reason. Joke, make people laugh, it always helps. Don't be afraid to make fun of yourself

Just be yourself.. Once you start trying to act different..then you have to keep it up..why bother..If someone don't like me--oh well.. Everyone is not going to like every other person on this earth...so don't stress about it..

Be yourself. Listen and listen again. Ask questions but not too personal ones. Smile and enjoy meeting people.
Remember they too may be just as uncomfortable.

It sounds like you are trying too hard to make sure people like you so you get nervous. Just be yourself. If they don't like you then who cares! There are people out there who would make much better friends who like you just the way you are faults and all. =)

Be reserved. That doesn't mean shy necessarily. Just don't blurt out things... follow the person's lead and see what they're comfortable talking about first.
