I don't understand why they have the "kick em when they're down" attitude financially speaking. The families of the deceased have enough to deal with in regards to emotional baggage, why screw them over financially on top of that?

They are like every other business, they have to make a profit or they don't make any money. If a funeral home is family owned an operated the prices tend to be cheaper, but if they are corporate owned there prices will be higher, due to corporate rates. **Keep in mind the funeral home does not set it own prices, the owners of the funeral home do**

just like any other business - it has to make money - and honestly it is one business that will never die!

cremation is the cheapest way to go these days.

funeral homes have a lot of expenses that the average person doesn't think about...body removal, storage (cooler units), chemicals, and the biggest right now for everyone --GAS
they have to transport the body from the site of the death to the storage area, then to the prep area, crematory or funeral home, church then graveside ... there are a lot of expenses!

I know it sucks, but the fact is everyone dies and you should start paying for funeral arrangements as soon as possible - you can lock in a price while they are still low enough so that it is possible it will be paid for before you even die and then your family won't have to take on that extra expense.

see your local funeral home for info. (did you know you can borrow against burial insurance?)

The best time to take advantage of someone else is when they are extremely vulnerable and have run out of options.
The family of the deceased has to bury their loved one. They have no choice but to pay the price they are given, because there are no alternatives. And because there are no other alternatives, the funeral parlors can charge whatever they see fit.

That's why it's better to plan ahead so you're in a right frame of mind and don't get overcharged. The more crooked places take advantage of people's grief and have them pay for extras that aren't necessary.

Because people have to be buried. It's not like comparison shopping, where the funeral home down the street charges $2,000 less. You can't exactly bury your mom in your backyard...you have to take her to a funeral home. Even cremation is ridiculous. My sister had her 8 lb. cat cremated when she died, and it was $400. FOR A CAT!!!

The market sets the price. If you don't like the price, goto another one. If you don't like the prices of any of them, then go into business yourself, and undercut the others. Most likely, they are only charging what is a fair and reasonable profit to run their buinsess in a respectable way.

Same reason the Oil companies can overcharge. No one is being held accountable.
