Etiquette - June 2006

Check out counters often have a "privacy" area but people crowd the patron who is paying. Do you think you will get through the line faster if you "push" them? Who else thinks this is extremely rude? Do you understand that the "privacy" area is there so you can have some protection when entering pin numbers or writing a check that has a lot of personal information imprinted in full view of people who crowd the "privacy" area.

I go to a local store to buy stuff, and I pay the cashier & get the change. Then I put the coins & notes into my purse & put it into my pocket and leave; this process takes just about five seconds. But this is where I felt kinda bad - usually the cashier, after handing over the receipt with change, waits for me to put everything in place and set myself before leaving. But today, this cashier gave me the change and said "can you move?" almost immediately (when I had just about opened my purse).

I felt bad because almost all cashiers I've met have been very patient and courteous with me, i.e. they wait for me till I get set - except this guy.

What is your opinion on this? Was the cashier being rude to me, or was it entirely my mistake?

All the other girls have treated me badly ever since I got my title. Every time I go to a dance someone steals my date. I have a lot of guys flirting with me and the other girls start teasing me about it. They have stolen my tiaras and called me fowl names. The other girls don't address me properly. They are suposed to address me as Your Swingness, but they call me KJ instead. I don't like that. How can I tell them I deserve respect withtout getting teased even more? Why are they treating me like this?

If a person asks a question, and mispells a few words in it, why do people feel it necessary to correct them in a rude manner? Most of the times these responses do not even attempt to answer the askers question. Besides two points, what are you gaining? If a person really wants to show off how well they can spell , cant they do so in a nice way, while also answering the askers question?

Two women where I work were discussing the books they were going to buy for their children and grandchildren (a book salesman sometimes stops by our company. They made it clear to everyone around their cubicle that they were only going to pick story books that were about black people or geared toward black kids. They even got loud about it. I was like lady I don't care! Just buy the books already..do you want a t-shirt to commemorate it? Then one of them says to me that black people are loud and proud and to just deal with it. ...and they wonder why segregation still exists.

why do some that you have spoken to and say hello and seem really friendly to you sometimes give you the cold shoulder and pretend like they don't know u and just walk past without saying hello or even look at you. this seems to happen around college alot- and then when u look at them to smile they pretend to look somwhere else or look at the ground-what's up with that?
