Both are extremely annoying in their own way.

Right wingers are crusty, and for some bizarre reason tend to love order and being told what to do; they don't mind being part of an authoritarian structure. For all their alleged hatred of "big government", they tend to be big on order, conformity, and "fitting in and not crossing the line" in all other ways. And I needn't even comment on the stupidity of the religious right...

Left-wingers tend to be sooo idealistic, and are nosy busy-bodies. "Let's go bother some people who for all we know may not even WANT our "help"." They do things out of a sense of misguided, unwarranted guilt. They have annoying voices, and wear those ridiculous black-rimmed glasses. They attach themselves to "causes" without really knowing ANYTHING about them--the whole "Free Tibet" nonsense being a great example.
They are humorless, naive, eat too many vegetables, and are either pretentious NPR-listeners or upper-middle class kids masquerading as "hippies".

Yesterday I asked two questions:

Why do americans pronounce the word 'herb'..'erb' since when did it have a silent 'h'?!

Why do black people pronounce the word 'ask' as 'arksk'?

For the first one I got some fascinating answers about accents, history and dialects and for the second I mainly got a load of people ranting that this light hearted observation was unfair as I was lumping black people together, using unfair generalisations and generally being racist. That I have not heard all black people speak is obvious. It was purely a turn of phrase and the meaning of it, if a little intelligence is applied, is surely unmissable?

What is it with the obsessive hysteria of these people with chips on their shoulders who can do nothing other than kick up a fuss about something that was meant to be harmless and innocent and rant about how unfair it all is?

I think they should watch some vintage Hippie films, like "Easy Rider", "Woodstock" and The Monterey Festival (w/Hendrix!)...among others.
Or, how about some modern interpretations, like "The Doors", or "Flashback" (w/Dennis Hopper & Kiefer Sutherland). That way, they'd see that Hippies are NOT evil, but good, however stoned, unwashed or naked they may be! Got any film/music/book recommendations?

do all white people get offended when people of colour say whitey ,cracker,and so on? are they racist? do all back people get offended when called ****** , cocoa puff , and so on ? are they racist? black people these days (in my opinion for what i noticed) are more racist to white people then we are to them! why the double standard and why is it so taboo to talk about it! we are all the same! i know i have not been all around the world but from what i hear on this site and from where ive been thats what takes place! cheers

In you're personal opinions and accounts, whether you've witnessed it, thought it or honestly inflicted on someone else, what is the state of racism today. Particularly in terms of white and black relations across the U.S. Is it subtle or still fairly overt amongst white or black peers? If so, why? I'm personally curious about other peoples opinions on race relations today. I personally think the "we are the world" answers are a bit niave myself, but if that how you truly feel, so be it. People of all races are welcome to contribute. I personally think it's alive and well in the United States... just surpressed due to laws aiding "minorities" in recent decades. Anyone else?

I was just wandering if asian people have big eyes because my grate grand mother looks asian, and she has big eyes and so do I. Notice that I didn't say that she is asian, she just looks like it.

violent crime in your area? I live in Houston and it is mostly blacks and hispanics. There are alot of white sex offenders and arabs, Indians, asians commit very few crimes here. Let's be honest here.

I work within a recruitment company, and 90% are eastern/ polish/ french etc etc.

I was talkin to a client this morning and they informed me that i shouldnt say black as it would be offensive.

but surely calling someone who is black is black, then to call them coloured.....

if i changed to the name of the bnp to the black national party?
this would not be a racist organisation despite the name it would be open to all members of society
life would mean life for certain crimes(in some cases the death penality)
I would abolish human rights for serious criminals
I would tackle the problems that the uk is facing as a society before trying to help others outside the uk
i am a straight talker, and would say things that needed saying - on the odd occaision i may cause offence
i hate bandwagons!

i think im going to start up a group just to piss off the racists

Why is it that I am treated with respect by most everyone, but have the most problems with fellow blacks, specifically black Americans? I am black, but of another nationality, maintain the culture/language, but was raised in America. I am (modestly) quite attractive, cultured, intelligent and I am approached and complimented all the time, but usually from other races. Black Americans tend to scrutinize and are rude. I literally treat everyone the same -- what is the reason for this? It hurts.

I don't think Halle Berry is as pretty as people say. To me she's just a plain jane girl who happens to be half-white. There are Black actresses and models that are way pretteir than her.The media is making it seem that you have to be half-white and to be condsieder a beautiful person of color. Why does the media still present a "white is right and Black is bad " mentality? Why can't dark be beautiful?

Im an American, and all i see on tv is parents who dont know how to control their kids. Kids who dont know how to do anything for themselves, people who complain about depression, ect... Is it just me or are americans getting weaker and weaker? They resort to medication rather than will power, behavioral issues with medication, lazieness with being depressed.... I love this country and I dont see "Americas Future" promising... And the rest of the world sees it that way and its a darn shame...
