Accents are generally similar, word usage throughout states vary - port to a Queenslander means a suitcase or schoolbag, not so in other states,as does togs for cossie (swimsuit) the list is endless, the accent true, and after twelve months away...there is no sweeter sound!

Some people have really rough accents. Especially Farming people. Others have more just mild. Some are slightly refined and then when Australians go overseas then you get funny mixes because the australian accent I think is much less strong than other accents and blends easily.

i'm a Kiwi and definite I do word the version between Aussie accents. for instance there is the kind like the late Steve Irwin who had an excellent reliable one, then there is Sam Worthington *swoons* whose accent isn't as reliable, besides the indisputable fact that that's nonetheless extremely huge at the same time. Russell Crowe sounds like a Kiwi/Aussie lol.

I do notice the dialect or slang in different parts of Australia are fairly unique to their area, but the accent is the same. It is quite different from the United States where accents and dialects are very different depending on what part you live in.
