They believe very strongly in peace and understanding. Also they feel we all will be together one day in heaven so it's like they are making friends with people their going to know for all of eternity.

We give credit to the Holy Spirit working within and through us, as it says in Galatians 5:22...
"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control."
I'm glad the American Christians you met were that way, because we aren't /always/ yielded to the Spirit. Also be aware that not all Americans are Christians, and that even an American /can/ be polite without being a Christian. :-P
