I agree with you, we have not been integrated, by virtue of the multiplicity of languages spoken. Language differences are symptomatic of our ethnic and cultural variations. Our society, for all its celebrated quality of tolerance, does easily make the different ethnic groups into a homogeneous mix,as it had happened in Europe. The English people are the mixture of different ethnic groups, like Angles, Saxon, Celts, Scandinavians etc.

Only golden thread uniting this Nation of multi culture, Languages, Class and Community is our ancient Religion . I am a born Tamil and I have travelled all over India many times from Cape Kanyakumari to Gomukh in the Himalayas on Pilgrimage to various Thirthas and Temples, even without elementary knowledge of Hindi, I did not find any difficulty in communicating with others.. People in all the places were extremely courteous and helpful, when they come to know we are pilgrims. Differences in Language or cultures have nothing to do with our unity. For that matter you will find differences even in the same family itself. I am happy you asked the question.

bro, if this logic apllies to india, then what about earth? we have so many cultures, nations, languages. then world peace would never b possible. but i believe otherwise. i believe we should learn to live together despite differences. the problem is we fail to see unity in diversity, instead we see diversity in unity. the problem is with our perception not with culture, tradition n language. to me each state in india is unique in its language n tradition. to me listening to devotional songs in all languages is so beatiful. i enjoy the variety of languages there r. lets enjoy n appreciate the beauty of variety, not segregate basing on differences.

As long as state don’t interfere in the personal matter of any group there is no danger of disintegration. Just look at the Pakistan, she get disintegrated in just 20 yrs although they claimed that they got the country because of one religion but even then that one religion couldn’t help them to unit

Our unity should be built on our common majority religion of hinduism, and not stupid differences like language, caste, creed etc.

A punjabi should not look at a Tamil man and not highlight the differences in creed, but should highlight the common religion that the two men have.

I agree with many answers above.

And u know what I think, it's not diversity but Indians like you who are India's misfortune!

We Indians may have internal differences but we are still united if someone wants to fight against us.

Well that proves, we are a nation whivch has harboured many religions, black white, green blue, and hindus and muslims and yet we manage to pull it off by convincing congress to sign our nuclear bill. Isn't it something. And you are grumbling. In one household, you have many diversified topics to talk about.
