Marriage and social service are not interchangeable in a person's life. You need to get married and you should be blessed for your marrige to work , only then you can understand its relevance.
In the hindu system of marriage caste used to be important but in the mordern times perspective of things are changing very rapidly. In the present times there are so many other priorities that the caste factor is loosing relevance.

Every person does not have to marry.
In Hindu culture however, it is the custom for everyone to marry in order to continue the family line, to not be alone, to make the parents happy, for social acceptability, to create a mutually beneficial union between two families, etc.
However, I think you should only marry if you want. At the end of the day, no one else lives your life but you.

I think its a matter of choice....not everyone wishes to marry...but many do for many different reasons but I don't believe it's for tax purposes or for social services as you mentioned. As far as Hindu marriage, I can't really say because I have only heard a little here and there, hopefully their arranged marriages will diminish in the near future, no one should marry to satisfy the need of their parents, or because of combining material benefits.
That's just my opinion.

Don't make it shown like an obligation! For most of the people marriage is a need! A need to perpetuate the species! Or a need to be with the one they love!
