I was raised VERY religious Christian; by teens was agnostic; later, became more spiritual & believed in God again. can feel God in Nature, & I like things Jesus taught, it's true I guess I don't understand the trinity so well, but my BIG problem started when in church the preacher told in detail abt Jesus death for our sins. I don't know why i never wondered this before but i suddenly got very upset at the idea it was MY fault he was so hideously tortured in my place--& I didnt think i'd done ANYthing so bad to deserve such punishment. In fact why would a loving God set it up that ANYONE deserves that, let alone decide Jesus must substitute? I've heard a blood sacrifice was req'd But WHY is God so blood thirs? & I know "the wages of sin is death "& I still dont get it Why such horribleness for Jesus means I escape hell? I KNOW how serious it is to doubt what I was taught was THE basic tenet. Did Christians always have this as the central belief? Has anyone explained this well?

I'm consider myself a Christian. I've studied a lot about religion. I am interested in possibly joining the Catholic church. I've gone to mass a few times and find it confusing. I feel the Catholic church is the original church that Christ setup. Where can people who are looking into the Catholic religion go to learn more and understand it's practices?

Atheists: Do you think Christians just go to church to hear rhetoric and dogma all day?

Christians: Do you feel like there's too much insubstantial and badly thought out rhetoric and dogma being said in church?

please help me
i got this from a song
and i cant figure out what language it is
if yo know what it means
please tell me that also..
but i mainly just need the language

Claro-que-sim
Fui escoteira-mirim
Direto da escola, não
Não ia cheirar cola
Nem basquete, pebolim
O que eu gosto não é de graça
O que gosto não é farsa
Tem guitarra, bateria, computador saindo som
Alguns dizem que mais alto que um furacão (rhéum)
Perto dele eu podia sentir
Saía de seu olho e chegava em mim
Sentada do seu lado
Eu queria encostar
Faria o tigela até o sol raiar
Debaixo do lençol
Ele gemia em ré bemol
Fiquei tensa
Mas tava tudo bem
Ele é fodão, mas eu sei que eu sou também

help please...its driving me crazy

thank you

I ask because many I've talked to don't want to hear a word against it - but what if the discussion is interesting and ideas are presented that may have never been considered - on both sides of the debate?

Why I'm posting this:
I had posted yesterday and cited a video that gave me a lot to think about in regards to Christianity. I saw it as interesting and expected it to generate some healthy debate but I think it was viewed as an attack. The gentleman in the video IS a little angry and cynical, but I found it difficult to disagree with most of his points. Anyway, for those interested, the video is here: http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=BsKgDNp9IoE

2000 years from the year jesus was born indicates that it is a measure of time from that event.

A man walks into the woman's section of a department store and tells the sales clerk he wants to buy a bra for his wife.
"What type of bra?" asked the clerk.

"Type?" inquires the man, "there's more than one type?"

"There are three types." Replies the clerk,

"The Catholic type, the Salvation Army type, and the Baptist type. Which one do you need?"

Still confused the man asked, "What is the difference in them?"

The clerk responds, "It is really very easy. The Catholic type supports the masses, the Salvation Army type lifts up the fallen and the Baptist type makes mountain's out of mole hills."

"I don't have any winter coats with rhinestones and glitter, so I'm just going to dress warmly," said organizer and participant Jennifer Major of Gilmanton, New Hampshire.

Before giving your judgement or opinion that a God can never sin or do evil acts. Take this example and see what happens. I have asked this before but I was not too clear, I suppose. Let's try again.

If an entity (could be anyone including a God or many Gods depending your you faith) asks you to chose between two choices. One is disobey him he tortures you until you old age or obey him he give you everything he owns. Now, is such an action evil or not evil if someone gave you these two choices?

I don't care if it is from a God or from any entity. I'm only looking at the action or deed of this action to determine if such deeds are evil or not. Please be honest and open minded just for once.

My take looking at this is such demand from such entity seem like an evil action. I think a judge or police or even a UFO if they exists would agree. I tend to think even Jesus would agree this action is evil if Jesus ever really existed and also gives an honest answers.

It would be all about freedom of religion this and thats unconstitutional that, yet when a christian says it for many its perfectly fine. Your silence is merely quiet agreement with the removal of democracy in my opinion.
How unamerican....
