My mother was a Christian but she wasn't a fundie/bible literalist and she certainly wasn't stupid. I haven't 'gone against her', I've just made up my own mind about things.

I doubt that believing differently than your parents constitutes calling them "stupid".
But I was raised by atheists, who taught me to value compassion, science, and common sense, so what do I know?

Blindly had our creator's universal gifts of life without being aware of it.
Ever wonder how they all became a "Bettermen" as the Son of God.

I was raised Christian by Christian parents.
And I don't think my parents are stupid, but I think that they, too, were brainwashed into believing in magical, invisible, supernatural beings from birth, as were their parents. I just put more thought into those beliefs later on than they did. Now Christianity is so ingrained into them that they are somewhat afraid to allow themselves to think otherwise.
If my parents behaved in such a way that I deemed them delusional, like a fundamentalist, then I would be concerned. However, my parents are very laid-back, tolerant, loving people. They are respectful of my beliefs, and the beliefs of others. They don't deny scientific evidence. They use their heads. If all Christians were like my parents, then I'd have no problem with Christianity.

My parents were Christians and were very smart. But, they were not fundies and encouraged us in science, the arts and loving nature.
I knew as a child I was atheist and kept it to myself. I thought of my father as a Cultural Christian because, as a scientist and humanist, the Methodist Church fit his ethical standards.
My mother has no problem with four of her six children being atheist. I know she wishes we weren't but there is no estrangement and she loves us just as much. My father is deceased.

Mine were Catholic. No, it isn't about rebellion. Yes I think they are wrong in their beliefs, but I leave them alone because it doesn't bother me.
Most Athiests don't care if people want to believe, they justs don't themselves.
Religious people are very defensive and consider Athiests a threat of some kind so they post this sort of question whenever they can.
Do you really think you are going to guilt-trip people back to Christianity?

My parents were both brought up Christian, but left it at an early age. They let me choose what to believe on my own. I never had to "go against them".
And this country is not a Christian one, whatever you may have heard. That's a common misconception.

Not stupid at all. Wise enough to let their child choose his own beliefs (or lack thereof).
