If someone prays sincerely, and from the heart, and God still answers with a "no", then why bother in the first place?

I'm not talking about "Please, God, let me win the lottery" type of prayers, I'm talking about "Please, God, cure my infant daughter of her disease so that she may live to serve you" type of prayers.

Like say you are asking something like: "I should have eaten breakfast today..." I read a lot of people who write "I SHOULD OF eaten today..." which is correct? I thought the first one was...

Silly question, I know!

The question is this; as G-d, according to Christian belief, "Became man in the form(or your substitute here) of Jesus"; is "become" the same as "change"?
Or, do you have a different grammar for this explaination?
Thank you and Shalom.

But then tell you "well if I'm wrong it's no big deal but if you're wrong you're going to hell and there's no way out! muah ha ha ha ha!"

Do they not see the paradox there?

They are saying "I have Free Will"
but also "If I don't follow this - then I will be severly punished!"

How is that free will? Free will to choose to suffer?
Does that really make sense to them?

If God says, you are free to do as you choose, but if you choose against me, I will punish you. That's not free will.

If a parent says, Johnny you're free to do whatever you want. But if you don't do what I say I'm going to beat the crap out of you.
Is that free will ? How is it free will if the person supposedly giving us free will, applies conditions?

It doesn't make sense to me.

This isn't the only problem with the whole "Free Will" idea either. just part of it.

Reading a question here earlier about what other freebees seniors are 'owed' by the government got me thinking about this because I'm not looking for anything from the gov but my Social Security, which is money I paid in.

But it seems to me one way the elderly could help and support one another would be to join together to form subsistence farms. There are small farms going to ruin all over this country, many to be had cheap.

No single SS check would buy one, but a dozen pooled would easily make payments while leaving a lot left. Pooling transportation would also save a bunch.

It's amazing how much food can be grown on 20 acres of land provided a person doesn't depend on it except for shelter and sustenance. A person can't live well on a single SS check. But a dozen checks and a dozen people working together to better their lots would be an entirely different matter.

I think it beats government handouts all to pieces.

What do you think?

If god is omnipotent, omniscient and benevolent then why did he create a world where suffering exists?

Now, before everyone starts throwing "free-wills" at me, consider this:

If god is omnipotent why didn't he just create a world without suffering where we also possess free-will? This should be entirely within the grasp of a supposedly all-powerful creature. Furthermore, what does the suffering caused by natural disasters have to do with free-will?

People say that to make your way in life you have to do what you love, do what you have a talent or a gift for.

I'm 36 and currently at home with my baby son. I want to go back to work but not sure what to do. I have a history degree which I've never used and have no real work experience other than a little bit of office and shop work.

I don't have a talent for *anything*. I like singing but tbh I sing fairly badly, I play the piano pretty terribly, I can't cook, I am not terribly creative, can't really make things or do anything "with my hands", I'm not really very good at looking after people or being a carer (other than for my son), I honesty can't think of anything I do well.

I've heard it said that everyone has at least one gift but at 36 I've yet to discover mine. I don't think I have one. So what do people with no particular gift do for a career? There are things I like doing but nothing I can do *well* . . .

Since it's hard for religious believers to follow a belief along a moral code turning them hypocrites, aren't Atheist who have no moral code actually more honest and therefore more spiritual? What constitutes having a religious nature, because if it isn't honesty, then what is it? Is it just believing in someone or something that's good enough?

Few people have had as much attention from God as the Israelities yet the story of their history as accounted in the Old Testament is one of God and his many prophets contiunuouly having to bring the people back into line. Even the wisest of their kings Solomon committed adultry and murder.

when I was a kid (and went to my mother's evangelical church), I remember that evangelizing was paramount. Converting someone from atheism or another religion (or even another sect of Christianity) was A number 1 God's work.

But increasingly on here and elsewhere I hear Christians saying they don't give a damn about converting anyone and they don't even seem to understand why I would think that's part of their religion.

What's happened in the past 30 years? Are people just too lazy these days?

2007-12-30 07:12:25 · 12 answers · asked by Anonymous in Religion & Spirituality

"Nothing new under the sun" - the disagreements between believers and Atheists has gone on for thousands of years.
We are born with a mindset including: priorotizing ourselves, what we want, doing things in our way and strength.
That is the first mindset.
There is a mindset where you come to God, do things his way and embrace his ways, and find a new, empowered life. A life where your life and God not separated but involved together. Where doing things in your strength and wisdom is possible, but it is understood as truly you alone, and is apart from all God has and will give you to bless your life.

Many will reject God, say he is not real, etc., in the first mindset, but isn't a life with God a greater life, a greater mindset?

I have one journal where I record what I remember of both of them. It's hard work recording dreams and meditations in detail, but it's worth it to me. It gives me insight... I find useful in my daily life and helpful in my pursuit of long-range goals.

I have a very soft-spoken voice and even in a small group if I say something, sometimes I'm overpowered by others. This young woman will somehow hear me and will ask me to repeat what I said so she can listen. She occasionally gives me advice on my problems with guys. It was hard for me to open up but I did little by little over the past few months. I even started to reach out and interact more. But I'm worried about interacting TOO much. Right before the holidays, I naturally reverted back to my quiet and shy mode. She started to make an effort to get me talking again.

Any conclusions or insight on either of us?

I know some people who write a list, go out driving on a country road where no one else is going to be, let the list go out the window and drive back to find it. They believe that if they find it they'll have good luck throughout the new year and they'll stick with their list. If they don't find the paper, they write a new list and do those resolutions. What do you guys do?

...that it may be just selfish and wasteful? I appreciate the fact that large family units, farmers and people doing moving, hauling etc. need larger vehicles, but too often I see solo individuals driving these monster vehicles and I wonder why given the cost of gas, the need to improve the environment etc., these vehicles are everywhere. If you go to an urban or suburban shopping mall, the number of these oversized vehicles is staggering. I often feel that these indiviuals are more aggressive on the road given the size of the vehicles they drive. Could there be some compensation mechanism going on due to feelings of inferiority or smallness in other areas? PS I know this goes against the Amercan mania for owning bigger and bigger cars. Nor I am not a displaced flower child, an environmental freak or even a bleeding heart liberal. I am a conservative republican on most matters, but having all of these big cars seems wasteful and destructive to our society.

I just read this on Ask Moses http://www.askmoses.com/article.html?h=541&o=387 and wondered if it was widely accepted in Judaism. So to be a good Noahide you don't even need to believe in God, pray, or do good works? Just refrain from doing bad? And establish laws and courts, isn't that what the Jewish court the Sanhedrin is for?

"In fact, a non-Jew who studies and observes the Noahide Commandments is equal to the High Priest who enters the Holy of Holies on Yom Kippur.

These are the Seven Laws:

1. Not to worship idols.
2. Not to blaspheme.
3. Not to murder.
4. Not to steal.
5. Not to be involved in illicit sexual behavior (adultery, incest, homosexuality, etc.).
6. Not to eat the limb of a living creature [not to be cruel to animals].
7. To establish courts of justice to enforce these laws."

Do you have any ideas for me for how to help bring down civilization? I've read Ishmael as well as some of Derrick Jensen's books and I'm convinced that civilization needs to go. I know that I obviously can't do it alone and that my efforts probably won't do anything which is why I'm at a loss for what to do. But you know the whole "think globally, act locally" thing... maybe I can make a difference locally....
