What does that tell you about intelligence and survival? According to Christians, we are not only superior to animals (read the Bible), we are not EVEN animals (read the Bible).

A mechanical engineer died & went to heaven. Upon arrival Saint Peter checked "THE BOOK" and didn't find his name, so he informed the engineer that he must get on the elevator and go DOWNSTAIRS.

Reluctantly the engineer boarded the elevator for the long trip DOWNSTAIRS and upon arrival in hell found that he was very uncomfortable due to the excessive heat. He asked to see the devil and was granted an interview, at which time he requested a large number of materials with which to build an air conditioner. The devil replied that he could have anything he wished, and what he couldn't find, they would steal. So the engineer spent a month and a half building an air conditioner, which, when completed, cooled hell off only a few degrees.

Somewhat unsatisfied the engineer requested additional materials, with which he spent another month and a half building a sprinkler system to add to the cooling effect of his air conditioner. Hell was getting much cooler now and folks were beginning to almost enjoy it.

About a month later the red phone rang. The devil answered, and found that God was on the other end of the line.

"Remember that mechanical engineer we sent down about 4 months ago?" God queried.

"Hell yes, I remember!" Said the devil.

"Well, Saint Peter missed that man's name on the last page of our book because the page was stuck to the one in front of it. So I want you to send the engineer back UPSTAIRS, as is our agreement. If they're on THE BOOK, then they stay UPHERE and if not, they go DOWNSTAIRS." God exclaimed!

"I'll be damned if your going to get that engineer back. He's put in an air conditioner and a sprinkler system down here and folks are almost happy to be here. I expect that when some folks hear about this they may begin to request to be sent DOWNSTAIRS!" said the devil.

"Now look here! We have an agreement! In the book---UPSTAIRS and not in the book---DOWNSTAIRS!! If you don't send that engineer back right away I believe I'll have to sue you!!!" shouted God!!

"And just where do you think you'll get an attorney?" replied the devil!!!!!

With all the evidence provided it is without a doubt that evolution is a proved fact. We have an excellent unbroken fossil record which fundies refuse to see. Our DNA records are much more than compelling but still fundies bow their heads in denial. When micro evolution is actually observed it is ignored by fundies. Why? With all the evidence they know that evolution is a fact they just refuse to admit in fear of losing their little piece of la la fairy land of eternity. They still want to continue living safely in a square world with a guardian angel on all four corners.

Does anyone even realize anymore that Christmas is about the celebration of the birth of Jesus? Want not things of this world. Even the poor are blessed. If you are hungry and need food, this is a valid need that should not only be addressed on Christmas, but every day. I just don't get the greed of the people these days.

Ever notice if a question is asked about the Environment or Animal Rights how many "good Christian folks" scoff at it?

Why are there fewer Environmentalists in the Religion Right than in the Liberal Left? It seems Christians believe "all this" is here for their disposal and there is no moral need to preserve it or protect it. They make fun of Environmentalists and also Animal Rights activists like PETA.

I'm just wondering WWJD?

I'm not saying ALL Atheists are environmentalists or are animal friendly. After all, the only common thread among Atheists is a belief there is no god. But, I personally know many Atheists who feel compelled to protect earth for future generations. Yet with the Christians...it seems the more religious they are, the less responsible they feel for earth and animals.

Your thoughts?

the Treaty of Tripoli? I ask because anytime I bring it up to back up my point (along with other sources) THIS source is just sort of "ignored". These are the SAME men who wrote the Constition...
Art. 11. As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquillity, of Mussulmen; and, as the said States never entered into any war, or act of hostility against any Mahometan nation, it is declared by the parties, that no pretext arising from religious opinions, shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries.

I have be told many times by Christians that the old testament really doesn't apply anymore since Jesus came on the scene yet they whip out the old Leviticus quotes to suit their purpose. You people can't have it both ways, pick one a stay with it.
Leviticus 18:22-23 - Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination. Neither shalt thou lie with any beast to defile thyself therewith: neither shall any woman stand before a beast to lie down thereto: it is confusion.

Leviticus 20:13 - If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them

I don't know a lot but Romney has me concerned - I wonder what Mormon's think of alternatives like homosexuality or Wicca? I'm hoping some Mormons will answer this. All I know is the basis for the religion (John Smith) and the multiple wives thingie... I'll keep my opinions on what I know of the background to myself until I get more first hand knowledge.

I'm looking for today's generally accepted views. We all know what the most common Christian views are on these subjects (I said COMMON - not ALL, so take a breath before you flame). But now we have a Mormon running for president - I think considering how much Bush allowed his religious views to color his actions while in office we should know more about Romney's, or at least Mormons. He's insisted on NOT discussing it so I'm a little concerned here.. what a person holds as their most sacred and deep seated beliefs most certainly DOES have an effect on what choices they make.

Thanks for any input on the actual question

I have a question, and I want your honest answer.
This is a question more for christians because it is directed at that religion, but anyone can answer, and probably will.

How can Christmas be *about Jesus* when the following factors exist:

Jesus was not born any time close to December, especialy not December 25.
Almost all pagan god's WERE born on December 25 or close.
All the rituals or "traditions" you use to celebrate christmas, are pagan traditions.
Jesus never said to throw him a birthday party.
Things such as tabernacles were already in place and Jesus followed those, but never christmas.

Please explain.

Thank you.

"The greatness of Christianity did not lie in attempted negotiations for compromise with any similar philosophical opinions in the ancient world, but in its inexorable fanaticism in preaching and fighting for its own doctrine."

You believe in God - when I question God or Jesus you get defensive, insulted or offended.

You believe in gravity - If I were to question gravity, you wouldn't become defensive, insulted or offended. More likely, you'd laugh at me, and walk away.

Why? What, fundamentaly, is the difference between the two? I'll tell you...

Because, unlike gravity, God does not exist, you believe in something that does not exist, your defense of His existence is untenable, and a proof of His existence is impossible.

Why or why not? If not what Scripture tells you it is only a symbol? This is something I was raised as a Baptist to believe was only a symbol but nothing I have ever read in the Bible supports that stance. Indeed everything I have seen points to the "Real Presence."
