While we're all supposed to be tiptoeing around trying not to offend anybody, it's forcing us to treat people differently on the basis of their race or culture - which is exactly what we're not meant to do.
My son, in his last year of primary, will not be taking part in a nativity play this year because it's not considered "inclusive". This really makes me cross.
Quite a few years ago I spent Christmas in Kuwait - which, quite obviously does not celebrate it. In spite of this though, the main shopping centre had some (limited) decorations, and all the Kuwaiti nationals graciously wished us Happy Christmas and were interested to see how we celebrated it.
At no time was there the merest hint that we were disrespecting them by having celebrations in their own country - they looked on with a kind of amused indulgence. Yet we're supposed to believe that anyone from a different religion would be devastated at us celebrating our own festival in our own country.
Utter bollocks.
