All are His names, all TRUE! Any name, a few names, all names -- you choose, but be clear in your mind, all are His names and all are true! Call a child, a baby, by any name, you havre the baby's attention: so also God, in His purity, innocence, Vatsalya or affection for you, will attend at once to your call -- any name!

A lot of people say that God is the true name of God. But God is just a title for that Supreme Being. G- generator, O-operator, D-destroyer.

There are many names that describe the functions, or certain glories of that Supreme Being. What Narkesu said is correct. These are the secondary names of God.

Many people say that such a being as God cannot have a name. Why limit God? He is Bigger than the biggest, yet smaller than the smallest. He is nameless, yet He has many names as well. He is male, She is female. We cannot put our puny limitations that our minds come up with. Our minds cannot comprehend.

Therefore we look to the scriptures (which are given by Him) which describe the beauty, glory and qualities of God, and His form and formlessness. Otherwise God is unknowable.

Krishna is His most primary name. This name describes Him as all attractive, Everything is contained within this beautiful name.
But He has many more names, even more dear and more filled with sweetness. Narkesu has mentioned some of them.
Many people are joking or speculating, or they just don't know, but this is not speculation, this is from scriptures.

Exodus : 3:14-15
YAHWEH AND it is His memorial name to all generations.
Jesus claimed to be this in several places in the book of John and that is the reason for the Jews to turn on Him.
John 4:26 - 8:24 -28-58 and 9:37 , 13:19
In the Greek it is very clear "I AM" is equal to Yahweh in the Old Testament.

God The Father - which means the Creator of all souls. It is nothiing about a physical birth or creation, it is the birth of the soul - the being of light. So God The Father is the name. I suppose this is the true name of God.

Also there is another name for Him which describes His task and that name literally means The benefactor. It refers to God being the world benefactor.

The name is of two kinds - principal and secondary

The holy name can be categorized in two types: principal and secondary. By taking shelter of Krishna's principal names, the jiva obtains the real boon of spiritual life. The holy names of the Lord that describe His transcendental pastimes and which contain all of the Lord's spiritual excellences are defined as principal names. They are, for example: Govinda, Gopala, Rama, Shri Nandanandana, Radhanatha, Hari, Yasomati Pranadhana, Madana-Mohana, Syamasundara, Madhava, Gopinatha, Vrajagopal, Raksala, Yadava, and so on. Anyone who chants the names of the Lord that depict His eternal pastimes can attain the Lord's supreme abode and His eternal service.

The secondary names and their symptoms

The Vedas address the Lord with names that describe His affiliation with His material energy. These are His secondary names, e.g. Creator, Supersoul, Brahman, maintainer and annihilator of the world, Yajneswar, Hara, etc. Such names of the Lord are invoked by those pursuing fruitive activities and empirical knowledge. In keeping with the Vedic directions, the chanting of such names of the Lord will result in piety and salvation-mukti

well, God's name is anonymous. he never told us his name in the four holy books, that we muslims believe...Koran, bible, and torah, and one other...cant remember the name, i guess it was for David.
okay, so the name thing...God never said himself what we should call him. its like you declare variables in programming and give files their names. the extensions and return types are important....i hope you didnt get it.
in the koran, God gave 99 names. each describes His qualities. you see, He isnt so worried what we call Him. we humans on the other hand, have made it a matter of ego what we should be called. like J-lo, instead of Mrs. Lopez (no offense).

I agree with Mr. Aum, Truth, Awareness, Bliss - Sath-Chit Anandha.

I also add Aum, Amen & Ameen & it is the primordial sound, which all the major religions have the name.
