Good question.....

Let's analyze:

I guess in the porn industry, one is considered an "actor" and therefore must be a member of the Screen Actor's Guild or some similar union. Even porn actors must pay union dues, taxes, social security tax, insurance, and other similar stuff. And as actors, they are not providing a "service" to customers. They are making movies, which qualifies as entertainment or "art". The porn industry is also regulated by government, including OSHA, the Department of Labor, the IRS, the Social Security Administration, CDC, and the Justice department.

Prostitution, on the other hand, IS a "service" industry (if you want to call it an "industry"). Prostitutes provide a service to paying customers. Prostitution is not currently licensed nor taxed by the government, because it is not currently able to be regulated by the goverment. The problem with this is that the necessary type of regulation would require some amount of monitoring by the regulatory agencies of both the "service providers" and possibly of the customers. The first problem with this is that the various government agencies don't yet have their act together enough to coordinate to do this effectively. The second, and more important problem, is that current privacy laws prohibit the type of monitoring necessary for regulation of prostitution.

Just a thought....

why isn't liquor illegal? why isn't cigars illegal? they all kill people dont they? But the government wont do it. Why coz of the billions of dollars the govt will get outta those each year.

And by the way porn doesnt cause as much health problems and crimes as the prostituition does. Its easy to contain and control them with laws. And did you know that prostuition is the oldest profession known to mankind. So being a glorified wh0re is allowed.

Because Uncle Sam wants his cut, and it's hard to tax the money the whores make from prostituting themselves.
