I feel certain that is how the people felt before the flood.
since it had never rained before and Noah said "water will fall out of the sky"
During Sodom and Gamorrah, Lot told his son's in law that fire would fall out of the sky. He seemed like a man who was joking. That also proves that all men in Sodom were not gay.
But enough were to get the place condemed.
If left alone long enough a nuclear war will be started by some religous zealouts.
Read Matthew 24:21,22 that is called the great tribulation in which all flesh will be destroyed. Not just people but all flesh.
Before nuclear war that would not be a posibility.
No matter how vicious the war or how extensive there would have always been a survivor. Maybe a bear or a horse?
Maybe even the last man standing.
But now see the day after? Nothing will be left over.

Are the stories you see on the television news, or science fiction stories? Yes, some of the 'rapture people' (thank you for that wonderful identification, by the way) who think that Jesus' coming back is imminent. Yes, nothing ever happens. Frankly, 'impending disaster' SELLS, and it's the advertising dollars that pay for these stories on television, in movies, etc. The world will 'end' someday, and that day is much closer due to global warming than to the other 'weird stories' on television. MAYBE we could stop the global warming, but we may not. MAYBE we'll have adequate space flight so we can 'escape' and fly to another planet, but we may not. Basically, STUFF HAPPENS, and all of this 'doom and gloom' is our human way of dealing with things that we can't 'deal with' in any real way. This doom and gloom HAS happened in the past, too, many times. The type of doom and gloom changes, but our history 'repeats' itself in ALL ways ... but eventually, someday, the world will end and life on Earth will end. SOMEDAY, but not anytime soon, I hope.

I put you on the Centreline of a Football field, and set myself up on the goal line with a shotgun with an unlimited supply of double aught buck, blindfold myself, turn around twice and start shooting...
I'll kill you eventually, but it could take some time...
Same thing with the asteroids and comets...except the earth is a MOVING target...
Incidently...when you're talking about atronomical issues like this, anything that comes withing the moon's orbit around the Earth is considered a Bullseye... But, next time you hear someone saying it can't happen...Point-out the Persiad merteor shower... ;)

The most likely outcome for this planet is incineration. Several billion years in the future, the suns core will run out of hydrogen to fuse to helium and start fusing helium. When that happens the sun cools a bit and expands into it's red giant phase. When that happens the earth will be in the solar corona and be incinerated along with Venus and Mercury. Mars might be a nice place to live then.

If they read their Bibles and actually did some research they would find that this is a world without end! The rapture is man made. Is Jesus returning? Time will tell.

The Scriptures are definite about the immanency of Christ's return as well as His long suffering nature. Clearly we are to be vigilant and ready as the good servant is awaiting the return of the Master lest we be caught unprepared and taken by surprise by the Master's return without our house in order.
Science demonstrates clearly that all of creation is winding down and will not eternally support our life.
Neither option tells us when but we can be certain about the outcome.
Hope that helps.

Catastrophe and paranoia catches the attention of the viewing public. Basically, doomsday scenarios sell. Negativity garners big ratings. It's just in our nature to be attracted towards such bad news.
At the same time, people love feel-good "comeback" stories of redemption and heroic tales of rising above adversity.

I personally don't believe in the 'rapture.' Maybe it's because i'm not very religious, but it's just more religious propoganda to get people to conform to their beliefs. I respect people's religions, but just don't push it on me. My beliefs are just as valid as yours! Listen, people have been predicting the end of the world for centuries. Life on Earth is not going to end, just going to keep evolving, at least until the sun burns out...
