I'm an Atheist, but I have great respect for the bible's tenets of love, kindness, respect for your parents etc. I don't think these all important things are best explained when taking the bible literally however.

Can't magic, fairy tales, talking donkeys and snakes, be simply metaphores to living life as a good person? Must we surrender reason and rationality?

Must we discount Eastern religions as blasphemous when they are trying to accomplish the exact same thing? -- which is being an enlightened decent human being? Buddhism doesn't criticize Christianity and say "it's wrong, and the punishment living by its rules is the roast on Satan's BBQ forever" does it?

Wouldn't the concept of decency be spread to more of humanity by omitting the literal translation of fairy tales and instead concentrating on love exclusively?

Prediction..
WASHINGTON — The peak of the next sunspot cycle is expected … mid-2012 — potentially affecting airline flights, communications satellites and electrical transmissions, according to the government’s Space Environment Center in Boulder, Colorado…

During an active solar period, violent eruptions occur more often on the sun, the agency said. Solar flares and vast explosions, known as coronal mass ejections, shoot highly charged matter toward Earth…

Daniel Baker, director of the Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics at the University of Colorado-Boulder, noted that more than $200 billion satellites in space can be affected by changes in solar radiation as the cycle rises and falls. A doomsday vault would be built near Longyaerbyen, Svalbard's main village, with space for three million seed varieties.

It would be a remote Arctic back-up -http://www.abc.net.au/science/news/stories/s1651679.htm

it can't be easy going around and telling everyone that Christ will return soon and so far he's stood them up. A hundred or even a thousand years from now they will still be waiting. I just wanna say that I feel bad for every Christian and forgive them of their misconceptions.

that you you come into R&S, bash God, Christianity, etc, and then make complaints about being "preached at" every time one of us Christians dares to spread the Gospel as God has commanded us to without watering it down in fear of offending people who want to live life their own way?

You're always accusing Christians of brainwashing people, so why do you yourselves try to brainwash people into believing that God is a sky fairy?

If it is so urgently important to you that people are allowed to decide for themselves, then why don't you let people do so rather than trying to brainwash them into being atheists and insulting their intelligence while stroking your own egos with claims as "atheism is the only intelligent choice"?

It's for a gift game and participants are women, men, boys and girls ranging in ages from 16 to 60+! I was thinking a magic eight ball or some kind of puzzle game. We're supposed to keep it around $5, but I think $10 is more realistic. Any ideas?

Research has demonstrated that people who know others are praying for them suffer more complications than those who think something else.

"Prayers offered by strangers had no effect on the recovery of people who were undergoing heart surgery, a large and long-awaited study has found.

And patients who knew they were being prayed for had a higher rate of post-operative complications like abnormal heart rhythms, perhaps because of the expectations the prayers created, the researchers suggested. "

Evolution is an enabler of atheism. How does this affect a persons world view? If we are merely the products of random, purposeless evolution what do the terms “good” and “evil” mean? Their morality and how they are able to perceive "evil" and "good"? Without a measuring stick (e.g. God's Nature) they have no basis for saying something is "good" or "evil". It is just an opinion, which really has no weight in judging how they act or how they judge the acts of others. And while atheists and evolutionists can certainly lead moral lives, if they were true to their beliefs they would have no reason to, nor would they have any basis to judge the actions of those they determine to have done something “wrong.”
But if there is a God who created us in His image, then we are not only created with a sense of what is right or wrong, but we also have an answer to “Says who?” Good is what comports with God’s nature, and evil is anything that does not.

Atheists and believers alike.. opinions?

When you hear that someone has lost someone important in their life, it's common practice to say "I'm sorry." But, then that person is often expected to say "It's okay," or "It's alright," in return..

..When in fact, it NEVER will be okay, or alright.

Because of that, I don't ever say "I'm sorry" when I hear of someone that dies.

But everyone I know, does say that.

What do *you* say?

I've heard it said that God cannot exist because nothing created God and something cannot come from nothing. Could you please explain how that makes any sense?

Using that argument, there should be no planets, no stars, nor any matter whatsoever because something cannot come from nothing. How then, did the planets and, eventually, people come to be? If nothing created them, where did they come from? Were they ALWAYS HERE?? Using that argument, is it best to have the belief that nothing and nobody actually exists and the world we are living in is simply a simulation? But then... who created the simulation?

Seriously, if you have a Satellite, you can get a channel called PeaceTV. This is a channel where they are daily, 24 hours a day and 7 days a week, getting the message out that Islam is not what the terrorists are making it. They have various Imams and leaders, and also Zakir Naik, proving time and again that the verses they use are not to be used in that way and refer to specific times. They also try to teach born Muslims and converted Muslims Arabic so that they can see for themselves that it is not what groups such as the Taliban have turned it into.

I can definately vouch for the fact that most born Muslims are taught to follow culture first. I'm visiting Pakistan, and if I didn't know what I know, I'd judge this culture as Islam as well, but I know better. They claim to be Muslims, but here women don't have any say in their lives for the most part. That is NOT Islam.

What do you think of Peace TV and what would you care to share?
