Has your beliefs, whether it be for or against the belief of God, got in the way of an otherwise great friendship?

As in, your best friend does believe and you don't and it has caused a rift that can't be mended?

I have a friend that is pretty conservative in her beliefs while I am pretty liberal. We just agreed to disagree and don't discuss hot button topics which for us includes religion. Even if something gets brought up we will bite our tongues and move away from the subject. Just because you have a thought doens't mean you have to express it.

I've had what could be called spirited discussions with people who dont have the same beliefs as myself, but it's never gotten in the way of a friendship.

My belief in God has never made any rifts with any of my friends. I have friends that are atheists, agnostic, Hindu, and Christian and we all respect each others beliefs.

No it hasn't
I spent 4 years with a christian man
We would have healthy debates about our different views and show respect even though we differ in belief. I find that open minded people tend to see pass religious views and base their opinions on a persons character

I have some relationships with non believers, but it is difficult to get past an issue that large in a close friendship. I wouldn't be opposed to having one, I simply do not have the opportunity to interact with that subgroup as much as believers.

I've had "friends" call me an atheist, and use it in the same way someone would use a slur. In the instances I'm talking about, if you had replaced the word "atheist" in the context of their sentence(s) with the "N" word, for example, people would have been horrified.

I've also had two relationships end because of religion. One before it ever really got started, and one in midstream, because she suddenly "found Jesus".

In real life, it caused me to seriously think about the direction of a relationship. We were actually engaged, but I had to seriously think about whether I really wanted to marry a man who thought my beliefs were a crock. I decided that it wasn't worth it, and we broke up. Afterwards, he really showed his true colors, and i have never been happier.

My friends are all intelligent people ... we can respect each other's beliefs without any problem.

Having said that, I don't know any Christians who believes that the Bible is literal truth; or any Muslims with equally extreme beliefs.

Not for me. Most of my close friends believe in God, but some of them distanced themselves from me when they found out I was an Atheist.

Many of them have been taught that Atheists are immoral people without meaning in life. Which is a lie, but maintained by people who claim that lying is wrong.
