accused of blasphemy and threatened with 6 months in prison or 40 lashes?

One or two hasty answerers not reading the question properly. This is a hypothetical Q about using Jesus as a name for a soft toy. This is not about the actual teacher who allowed the name Muhammad to be used. But, seeing as you have mentioned it, anyone care to make the connection?

She ought to be if Islamic law is consistent in protecting the honor of ALL of God's supposed prophets. However, if Islamic law has more severe punishments for those allegedly dishonoring the prophet Muhammad than any others, then it is clear they venerate this prophet above the others.

There's also a need to raise the question of whether Muslims worship Muhammad, due to this actual event. Soft toys are not images unless they are worshipped. Do Muslims fear that by naming a soft toy with the name of a person, then the way is open to worship - i.e. commit idolatry? So are they acting in order to prevent the sin of worshipping a man (Muhammad) in the form of a teddy-bear, or do their punishment laws show the opposite - that they adore Muhammad and that's why they're so outraged at their adored prophet being dragged down to the level of a child's toy? It would be nice to have some Islamic scholars considered opinions on this because to people in the West, Islamic law is acting outrageously against this poor school teacher.

I cannot judge because I am a mere human being like that teacher. However, I live the teacher in the hands of God. It is Him that must deal with the teacher. How can people compare Jesus to a teddy-bear ? What is we Christians also name a dog or a goat "Muhammad" My pity is in my heart.

Since Muslims respect Jesus as a prophet Im guessing she probably would get the same treatment.

The sad part here is Sasi feels she has to ask the question because Muslims torture and kill people for drawing cartoons, allegedly flushing a book down the toilet, etc.

I especially liked the incident in Saudi Arabia where the woman was raped and she was whipped becasue she left the house not in the company of a male relative.

If you think its a stupid question, it's not. It's stupid that sucj a questions has to be asked.

Off topic (like most other people) I would like to ask -- what do they intend to do about all the boys and men who are called Mohammed, or some derivation of that name? Like Ahmed, Mahmad, Amit, etc.

That's at least one-third of the Islamic world. Are they going to round up their parents and flog them all?

I can't think so, I believe that in Islam Jesus is said to be just a prophet, they have demoted him from being the Son of God.

In theory, she would be punished because Muslims think highly of Jesus. But I'm afraid such thing would go unnoticed in practise.

Ironical, isn't it?

Regardless of the teddy-bear's name she would be lashed and imprisoned, because images of living creatures are haram and playing with toys is forbidden.
