I'm after concrete answers here- facts, names, dates. Matthew, Mark, Luke, John etc won't do for me I'm afraid- I want provable fact.

I'm trying to work out why so many Christians have such absolute faith that the book they subscribe to is to be trusted (I mean, I can write a book and say 'you just have to believe this', but it's not going to be the word of god).

Other than being TOLD by believers that this book is the genuine article, what makes people think they can trust that this book is the genuine article? The teachings within it are not enough to justify the validity of the text- we need to know where it's from.

And as a sub question, if the bible IS the word of God, then who's word is in other religions' texts like the Koran? Is that God, too? Who's got the facts right and why are there different versions?

Anyone?

For the Christains

You say you are not sex slaves of God, but you are. For when the heavenly father is done with your marriage, you have to be like the angels. So he sexually uses you here on earth, or slaves you together to build his heavenly worship. Show me in the bible that the God does not breed you like animals, or show me why he breeds you like animals......USING THE WORD OF GOD.

For what ever other god there is what is your view on marriage in heaven?
thank you...this is not meant to be a troll question, your answers will help me understand your faith. Thank you again.

and for the Christians that say you just do not have sex, but you still love her...1Cor 7:29 says your marriage will be like you had none. like you traveled the earth and never new anyone. She will no longer be in your heart or your arms. Why is God like this? and do not twist the bible around please...

why isn't she considered an Apostle? She was there for all the sermons and lectures, she received the Word of God from Christ Himself, she did virtually everything the 12 guys did. Yet Christ chose to reveal Himself to her first after resurrection. Was there any other reason other than her gender?

If you are pro-death penalty, do you have proof that it deters crime? Compared to other nations like Canada, even when adjusted to population, they have 1/10 the murder rate as the US. How do Americans justify this governement sanctioned killing? Christians, didn't your god say thou shalt not kill/murder (depending on which bible you happen to read)?
Yes this does belong in R&S considering the number of chistians that make up the US.

The thing I bought was too big for a bag, so I asked her for a big plastic garbage bag to put it in, and when she got it, she looked at me and my kids and said something along the lines of make sure the kids don't get at this bag because it can lead to suffication.
Does she think I'm an idiot??? Of course I know that. It's even written in big black writing on the bag itself. Would you be offended too?

Personally I think there's nothing wrong with wishing someone a merry Christmas. If they don't celebrate Christmas then they don't have to get all in a fit over that. Especially since people don't get mad at others for saying "happy hannukah" or "happy kwanzaa" or whatever.

Sins are: Stupidity, and judging others.
Belief is: Believe whatever you like, it's your life.
Have a nice day.

Dont get me wrong, I wont bash them - but why do all christians believe they're right. Buddhists, Muslims, Hindus, Pagans, etc all have their beliefs - why do christians have the "final say" so to speak when it comes to beliefs, especially when they're one of the newer faiths on the planet?

There are other names for it --- sleep paralysis is just one of the big ones. I even read that in Iceland they call it the "Old Hag".

I had it at least a few times a year going back as far as I can remember. Typically you are paralyzed and either think that someone is breaking into your home or that an evil spirit is in the room with you. Mine tended more toward the latter but it was sometimes the breaking in variety. They are terrifying because they feel much more real than regular dreams.

For whatever reason, after I became a Christian, they stopped. This isn't a loaded question though --- I don't mean to imply that those who currently have them aren't saved or that they are only demonic in origin. I honestly don't know.

I'm just curious if any of you have them, what your experiences have been like, and what you think they mean?

I would like to know if you would keep my family in your thoughts and prayers throughout the month of December. My cousin will be deployed to Iraq next Saturday, December 1st. We had a going away get together tonight for him and it was... sad. It will be the first time that one of the 8 grandchildren (on my mom's side) will be gone over the holidays. To top it off I will also be away. I leave for West Africa on December 17th and will be away for 3 weeks. I am scared, nervous, and excited at the same time. I also am very worried about my cousin... we are pretty close and I am trying to be a strong individual about this.

So please, if it is not too much to ask, keep my family in your thoughts throughout the next month or so. Thank you in advance.

I was baptized in a Catholic church when I was young, but never really followed the religion at all (my father is not religious at all and my mother believes in the catholic faith although doesn't know much about it). I've been agnostic pretty much my whole life. My husband started attending a Luthren (sp?) church awhile ago, and would like to raise our kids to believe in God and to attend church, etc... he'd like them to be baptized (although the church that he attends performs dedications, not baptisms). All of this has gotten me to reconsider religion and realize I know nothing about what it means to be catholic, lutheren, or any other of the denominations. Can someone show me a resource that explains these in laymans terms? I feel I should be "drawn" to a religion, not to "choose" one, but it's impossible to be drawn when I know nothing about them... thanks.
