Being yourself doesn't really work, because inflicting everyone with your fleeting ideas may be cute in movies, it's mostly just tiresome. Some key concepts in refinement are:
Respect: Treat others very fairly and as you wish to be treated.
Restraint: Don't just blurt out whatever you are thinking. Think first, and then speak considering the meaning of your words. Even if others are rude and uncivil in their behavior, don't react. You are better than that.
Reflection: Think about why you feel the way you do about something before speaking about or acting on it. Then your words and actions will come from thoughtful sincerity and not just a gut reaction.

A lady does not use profane language, but can make a point forcefully without raising her voice. A lady is loving and kind, but will not put up with nonsense. A lady uses her mind and is mindful to continue to learn and explore the world. She is generous but does not brag. She listens and thinks before speaking. She cares deeply for others and helpful to those in need. Compassion is not a word, it is her action.
A lady respects her body. She maintains it through proper diet, exercise, moderation in drink. She carries herself with grace that comes from strength and agility. A lady keeps herself clean and neat, dresses like a woman, not something less. Her clothes match her body style, not someone else's ideal of fashion.
A lady is always prepared for the unexpected.......huh? She knows diversity can strike at any time and she remains as calm as possible, strong as possible, but still able to exhibit emotions without gettting a blubbery. She doesn't complain but handles problems quietly.

Start by taking shower everyday and put lotions on after that. Lotion does make your skin younger and it is not a myth.
