There are two words in the Hebrew that are translated as Lord, Yahovah and 'adown. Yahovah is a reference to God the Father alone. 'Adown could refer to Jesus or to a king or to the head of a household.

Some people believe in something called the Trinity. God in three persons. The trinity is the father, the son, and the holy spirit. I believe God is God and Jesus is His Son. Jesus is not God, like the trinity teaches, but he is a totally different person. You should read the Bible if for no other reason but to understand where these different religions are coming from. Its actually an interesting book. YOu have me stumped on the onion thing, I have no idea what they are talking about either. Not all Christians are zealots. Some of us believe the Bible and not the church!

Well if your so interested in religion READ THE BIBLE. Its the best way to answer this question. Jesus, God, and the Holy Ghost are called the Trinity. Holy Ghost is always with us. Jesus died for us. And God is God of all things. They do three different things but all the same person. When people refer to a onion there meaning that a onion is made up by different layers. But those layers aren't each a different onion. Those layers make up the one onion as a whole. And the Trinity makes up one person as a whole which is God the almighty

I ask my self the same thing . But in christian lore there is the supposed Trinity the Father , the Son and the Holy Ghost or spirit. The son which is suppose to be Jesus was believed to be God on earth in a human body so many people refer to him as Lord. If you look at real history he was a Hebrew and was referred to as Rabbi . But when you really read the Bible and see how it was written in parables you can see the truth when you also read the Koran they have very similar stories. The best book to read is find a English translation of the Guru Granth Sahib you can go on line to Sikh web sites and find it that contains truth.

Christian doctrine teaches the trinity. This is saying that God the father, Jesus, and the holy spirit are one God in three persons. This is extremely confusing (since God as an infinite creature is going to be beyond are complete reasoning) but it is essentialy sayint all 3 are the same , but each part is a different part. they are equal but each parts submits to GOD ... this is why he is the supreme being
when people say lord for JEsus they usually refer to the phrase lord and saviour... the lordship comes from Jesus being the ruler over their life.
SO God is supreme over all and Jesus submits to his father (God). But Jesus is lord over his followers life. It would be more helpful to talk to either a pastor or a Christian about this. I would recomend talking to a Presbyterian Church of America pasor (not PCUSA but PCA) or a Baptist preacher. Be careful when talking to so called christians bc many dont konw what they believe and are really not christians at all

There are three holy beings, one is GOD the father almighty, his son Jesus and the holy spirit. People call Jesus "Lord" because he was made into man, died on the cross. In laymen terms: Jesus became human and that plays a big part in most religions.
Hope this helps.

The English term lord is not found in the original language in which the scriptures were written. The king James translators used the English nobility title lord in conjunction with the word
God; to avoid using God's name YAHWEH. The felt it was an insult to use God's name in a common manner. The term lord as used by the king James translators was a title of nobility or importance.

The Father appointed Christ as Lord to accomplish the work of redemption. After it is all over that authority will go back to the Father.
Matthew 28:18 And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.
1 Cor 15:24 then comes the end, when He hands over the kingdom to the God and Father, when He has abolished all rule and all authority and power. 25 For He must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet.

It is because Jesus is God. I am going to post the text of a question I asked the other day. It is my explanation of the trinity. Hopefully it will help.
So many people seem confused about the trinity. So I am going to try and explain. Have you heard of the triple point of water? This is specific conditions when water can exist as a solid, liquid, and gas all at once. While the water exists in all three forms the gas is not the liquid, the liquid is not the gas, neither the liquid or gas is the solid. They are individual states. However underlying all three forms is the same substance, h20. Regardless of form they are all water and not three distinct types of water. Just three forms of water.
The same is true of the trinity. You have one underlying nature or substance which is God. However God exists in three forms at the same time. He is the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. One underlying substance but with three forms, just like water at the triple point. Only 1 God just like there is only 1 water. Yet having three distinct forms that all exist at once.
Make sense?

The simple answer: Christians see Jesus as being the Lord.
A slightly more complex answer: Jesus is fully man and fully God - because he's fully God, he is the creator and supreme being.
