sometimes, when you're reading the bible (assuming you do read it), do you ever stop in the middle of it and think, man, these were some really barbaric people!!! daughter sleeping with their father, men having two wives, people killing other people for religious beliefs. and all the while it was considered ok, if not good.

If god created heaven to be perfect, then why did the devil (who was originally and angel) rebel and become bad? Why does he hate god enough to go against all that he is, if god gave him anything that he wanted?

I am not trying to offend anyone's religion, I am just reading about god and religion and I am trying understand the story of the devil

Also how can one belive in the bible with all of the inconsistancies and spreading of hate?

again I am really not trying to offend anyone whatsoever

Creationism and evolution ARE NOT mutually exclusive (except for humans of course)! Why is it so hard to believe that during the periods of creation God used evolution to create all animals. Obviously he knew what he was doing, he had to have created the dino's during creation, knowing we would need the reserves for energy later.
Humans are the exception, obvious by the extreme intelligence we possess in relation to any other creature on the planet.

As-Salaamu Alaikum

I am curios to honest, meaningful answers.

I converted not long ago an I am having a hard time explaining to my children about not celebrating the holidays..

My Q is would it be wrong to, during there winter break make up our own "Thanks" Day to Allah (swt). And on this day have gifts, decorations, food etc..

I have taught them many things about the religion an they are so pleased with it an want to learn more, Al-Hamdullilah. But I am fearful that if I take EVERYTHING away I will discourage them from this beautiful religion, an they will despise it.

any an all advice is welcome, if done so in a respectful mannor

is there any sort of morality that can be learned from the story of jacob? apparently, the guy has two wives who are both sisters. one of them can't bear children so she gives up her handmaid to jacob to produce children. i'm trying to find what sort of moral message is being taught here. i mean, we know adultery is against what god wants yet, it almost seems as if it is ordained by god that rachel must give jacob her handmaid because she is incapable of bearing children. any clue on what the message here is?

I don't think so because of these reasons. What is or is not an extraordinary or controversial claim is relative to the audience. If an audience demands proof, the speaker should weigh the claim against his or her own understanding of reasonableness. I wouldn't feel compelled to defend my belief that Bush is disappointing in the face of those who disagree. Likewise, I don't feel burdened to prove the existence of God to those who doubt because my personal and communal belief in God is robust enough to find objections unobtrusive in any significant way. If I am personally invested in another person's belief (in the sense that a friends wants to discuss proof and evidences in detail) I would out of obligation to the relationship want to openly offer my reasons for believing. Friends are interested in each other's views.

I think this is more or less true of atheists or those who hold to evolution in the midst of doubters. They are not obligated to "prove" much

What do you think

Thank you to all you showed for the celebrations at MacTealc Towers - The Big Mac and myself had a wonderful time and we hope you did too!

However - on our return to The Towers we have had to face the saddest news .............. our dear chook Hetti has been removed!

We thought at first it may have been that she flew the coop to escape the shenannigans that spilled out from the Big Hoose ......... the owner of the HUGE motor bike dressed in all the Bling was causing a great kerfuffle whilst impersonating John Travolta in the fountain!

But no - it would seem the most unthinkable has actually happened.

We received dear Hettie's best tail feathers in the post this morning with instruction that we should not contact the police or the fowl authoritieis.

Do you have any clues ? Who could do such a thing? And what price for the return of our dearest friend and chicken - Hettie?

And if you have her - PLEASE DONT EAT HER - she would be tough as old ostrich anyway!

My wife and I recently bought a 5-foot living christmas tree that we are going to bring into the house for three days during the holiday and then take outside for the rest of the winter ... and then plant it in our yard spring. We are excited about the idea of always having a living reminder of our first Christmas in this house, and we also like the idea of not killing a tree for a holiday.
An arborist told us that if we brought the tree in for only a few days the root ball and the plant pot wouldn't completely thaw (we have freezing temps already where I live) so that the tree wouldn't 'think it's spring' and start growing in our house.
I'm interested to hear if any one else has had this experience or has considered a living Christmas tree?

With gas prices as high as they're climbing, they'll probably
be up 5c more by then. If you're staying home, what's the plan?
Some people like to have an open house, where people come
on New Years Day. That would save YOUR gas problem and
still be socializing.

So...Santa and Satan both have the same letters in their name, both have beards and both dress in red and black. You Never see them at the same time. YIKES could it be....that it is the same guy doing different gigs at different times of the year??

Of course then again...you never see Jesus and the Easter Bunny together either. Does anyone know if Jesus had big ears?
