So we know religious views i.e. its bad, you'll go to hell etc.
Im just curious about the views on suicide of the non-religious (atheist, agnostic, undecided etc.).
Do you see it as a mental illness, a failure of society or freedom of choice?
Thanks

Is there something somewhere in the bible about fighting as opposed to fleeing? Like, facing your temptation in order to overcome?

I just wonder because every now and then I'll read or hear (not here) something where a person has stated "I'm a Christian" or "We're a Christian family" within a comment on something. And it's obvious they are using it as a way of ensuring "we're a good, decent family" as opposed to someone who should not be trusted with their words. Which from this angle kind of insinuates that they are better then the rest of us.

To you is someone saying the opposite, "I'm not a Christian," saying they are bad people?

Even if it's something logically impossible like a "three sided square"?

I have heard some say (mainly atheist) that they do not believe in sin. Do you classify things as wrong doings? How about thinks like murder and rape? What exactly about the word sin (which simply means wrong doing) upsets you?

How is it possible that people can buy into the ridiculous idea that the Catholic Church didn't begin until after 300 AD?

Christ’s Church is Catholic. Catholic comes from a compound of two Greek words: “kato” = according to, and “holos” = the one. Christ’s Church is for all, and all are one: the Body of Christ. It is like speaking the name “Jesus”: Christ’s name was Yeshua, not Jesus. But we say Jesus because it came to us through the Greek language, which is what the New Testament was written in. The same goes for the word “catholic”.

Was Christ’s Church hierarchical? Yes. He chose twelve apostles, made Peter the leader, and gave them authorities that all the other disciples did not have. Later, in the book of Acts, the hierarchy develops further. The apostles appoint Deacons (greek - diakonos / διάκονος ), Priests (greek - presbyteros / πρεσβυτερος ), and Bishops (greek - episkopos / επίσκοπος ), and each have different duties. It is the same today in the Catholic Church

If an alcoholic stops drinking, s/he spends the rest of her/his life as a "recovering alcoholic".

Since I was raised as a Christian, but am no longer, does that make me a "Recovering Christian"? Or would that title still make me a Christian?

I'm an atheist, but I am curious as to how everyone else processes this, so all are welcome to answer.

Thanx!

I live with my 53 year old Aunt (I'm 30)--and we get along VERY well. We're both single. I pay rent & utilty bills (which helps her out alot) , and we each buy our own food.

I have a VERY stressful job as a teacher's aide in a tough school, but my Aunt is retired and home all day. This may seem strange; but I like to eat dinner alone and have the kitchen to myself. I like to read the paper & eat in peace and quiet, which I find relaxing. In the past, my Aunt cooks & eats around 7pm--while I usually eat dinner around 6...But recently, I decided to eat dinner at 5pm. All of the sudden, my Aunt has started cooking dinner at 5pm. While I'm eating, I hear the the clanking of pots & pans, along with her moving back & forth around the TINY kitchen. I find this VERY annoying and I dont know why! When I asked her why she's cooking so early now--her feelings were hurt & she got upset. IS IT STRANGE THAT I'M ANNOYED? AM I SELFISH FOR NOT WANTING TO SHARE THE KITCHEN?

I'm American born Chinese. My last name is Kwok. So if I marry lets say a Caucasian girl (I love white girls), and my kid wouldn't look fully Asian. So then my kid whose half half marries a Caucasian girl as well, and my grand children look White but got some Asian features and carry my last name. Would my last name still be considered Chinese?

The reason why I ask is because when people who aren't Chinese see my last name they don't think its Chinese. If its wong, lee, chan, or whatever people will hella recognize it to be Chinese. So if lets say for next 2 hundred years my name still lives on but the carrier is White, would his ethnicity still be Chinese? Or will he be considered American?

Thanks for reading.

i just got this, and frankly i'm a little surprised.

-I just received an e-mail warning about an upcoming movie for children in December. It's called "The Golden Compass" and stars Nicole Kidman. I don't know if you have heard anything about it. It will be advertised as a normal children's film but in the end it is trying to teach children that there is no God. It is based off of a trilogy of children's books and the author is called Philip Pullman. They evidently do some strange things in the movie and at the very end a girl and a boy are supposed to be depicting Adam and Eve, and then they kill God. They are trying to be very mild about it through the movie until the end, so a lot of parents won't even know that it's coming. Also, it will be promoting his books so you may want to become familiar with the author's name and the books that he writes!
I was astonished that someone would make a movie like this and direct it towards children!!-

your thoughts?

Why are women getting so mad and suprised after their boyfriend leaves them when they find out they are pregnant. What do they expect? If you really loved you they would just marry you already and then have a child. The child was clearly an accident. Why would you have a baby with your girlfriend? He probably just wanted sex because he knew he could get it from you. Why are women so slow?
