I'm speaking of an attachment-free platonic love, not lust or desire. At what time in your life did you feel it most clearly? Feel free to include compassion, joy, respect/reverence, others.

Lets say God came down and somehow proved to everyone that he was God. And the issue of exsistence wasn't an issue anymore.
So how do you think God himself would handle those who are opposed to him, based on things from the bible or the general state of the world?

This question relates to the god of the bible.

Thanks all!

Sounds like an initiation ceremony for any club. Sorry, this sounds trivial and ridiculous. What's going on?

I'm not trying to offend anyone here. It's just a personal story that I thought was interesting and well written.

The writer is a friend of my girlfriend. He was raised Christian and went to a Christian university, and used to speak adamantly in favor of Christianity. So you can NOT say he was "never a real Christian" or "just doesn't understand."

The essay is not too long, so I encourage you to give it a little thought.

Not being racist or anything by the question. But like, I'm Bangladeshi, and I get racially abused for no reason, whatsoever, and I just say shut up or something, then I report them for racism and the other people just defend the bully. I mean, I'm the only person in one of my classes that is different than everyone else. The bully gets defended while I'm being bullied.
Sorry if I couldn't explain this properly.

Am i the only one who feels like punching a wall anytime this bigot opens his mouth about gay couples, abortion or the 'morals' of the religious right? Am i the only one who thinks that he has something stuck up his you-know-what.
Who watched him? Why does he still have a show on TV? And for the religious right, do you share his opinions about gay couples etc?

Last question for today, I promise!

OK -- so I am intrigued by Fundamentalist Christianity, but I am having a lot of trouble understanding how it works. My question is basically, if Fundamentalists believe the Bible is word for word and literal, what do they believe about this passage?

5: 27 -- Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:
5: 28 -- But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.
5: 29 -- And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.
5: 30 -- And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.

I am a Christian. Let's get that straight first. But I don't understand how God can say that I am beautiful, and I always feel so ugly. I have struggled with an eating disorder before and am still struggling with self image...but that aside, could God be lying when he calls me beautiful?

If all we have to base belief in God and Jesus is in the Bible, and the Old Testament is based on ancient folklore that portrays God as a homocidal maniac...therefore inducing most Christians to only use the New Testament...where is the actual basis for believing in God in the first place? The only proof of the Judeo/Christian god are ancient writings from a Bedouin society. What makes this believable or reliable?

Generally speaking people who attend universities and those seeking advance learning & knowlege are more likely to become critical thinkers...

Yet when it comes to religions, most folks refuse to be critical thinkers... So why is that?

Perhaps many fear of the "after death" consequences? If that's the case, they don't believe, they just fear???

If a person is uncertain whether a particular religion is true and the god of that religion is real, but that person still "believes" in them because of the expectation of a reward and the FEAR of punishment, then that belief is not a true valid belief or a true faith in that religion and its god... is it?

I just cannot take the words of Father Smith or Father Brown or any other guru at face value. And to read the bible is even less re-assuring to me...

So does that mean that because I am a critical thinker that I deserve less than the sheeps who have lived in fear all their lives and "believe" because of those fears?
