I am a Christian. Let's get that straight first. But I don't understand how God can say that I am beautiful, and I always feel so ugly. I have struggled with an eating disorder before and am still struggling with self image...but that aside, could God be lying when he calls me beautiful?

I know I believe in God. So then why can't I believe him when he says these things?

God doesn't care about outer beauty. He looks for inner beauty. People look at the outside as if that were some measure of what kind of person you are. There are beautiful people who are ugly inside. There are ugly people who are beautiful inside. You need to accept yourself the way you are. Look in the mirror and say, "I like what I see". It takes a lot to accept the way we look. But you will be happier when you do. Then you will understand why God thinks you're beautiful. Because you are.

You may have body dis-morphia and see yourself differently to the way others see you. You are probably gorgeous but can't see it yourself...I don't believe in God so I won't comment there.

The best way to overcome this self-consciousness is to get involved in another interest, study read, do some courses, anything. Anyway I bet you are beautiful.

You could try EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique), look it up on youtube there are lots of free demonstrations, it uses a tapping technique to overcome problems. While doing it you would say maybe..."Even though I think I'm really ugly, fat and unattractive I totally accept myself"...soon those feelings of unattractiveness will go.

Just focus on being healthy, then your personality will come out more. Being strong spiritually will make you radiate a sort of inner beauty. Meditate/pray, do mind-body exercises, eat healthy, don't overindulge, and look for good inspiration everywhere, This will make you stronger spiritually, and feel better about yourself.

Until you believe in yourself and realize who you are and what you are capable of, it will not matter what anyone else believes about you. God does love you. But if you don't love yourself you're not gonna realize that and feel it. Work on your relationship with yourself and I know all your other relationships will improve. If you ever need someone to talk to, let me know.

You've bought way too much into society's ideal of "beauty." The old saying "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" is very true.
