well, i've read the books, and i gotta tell you, those thigns really changed by perspective of things. i was a christian before and a christian after and still am today. yes, the books to portray the Church as the bad guy, but not necessarily religion. it is about the conflict good and evil, but in the end what wins out is human nature, which is both and neither. the god in the movie is not the same God you and i worship; but yes, he does die near the end. the books at least aren't about "killing God" in the literal sense, they're about getting past the beurocracy and politics and hypocracy of the church. i would encourage you to read the books first and make your own educated decision instead of basing it on short excerpts of quotes from interviews a long time ago. if you read them, approach them with an open mind and if you still don't like the idea then by all means don't go see the movie. even if you don't want to buy the books they're almost certainly at your local library i know mine has two books of each part of the trilogy. also, i'm not sure about the movies but the books at least are NOT childrens books and not intended to be so. Nicole Kidman, who plays one of the main roles in the movie and is also Catholic said not to long ago in an interview that she wouldn't have done the movie if she'd thought it was anti-christian. however, she also acknowledged it was "not for children"

If you feel strongly about it, don't bring the kids, but you should watch it anyway. You cannot silence what has been said by simply not watching it. And truth does not reveal itself without people being open to dialogue. You MUST watch it.

I've always disagreed with the term "Blind Faith". True faith is never blind. Closing your eyes to the views of other people who disagree with you is a sign of fear that your views are wrong. It is precisely a sign of lack of faith.

I've read and seen a lot of things from different points of view. Reading or watching them does not mean I endorse them. But some of the greatest works that I've read or seen are usually from people who know precisely the views of those who oppose them and then they make an intelligent and sometimes brilliant response.

Edit: BTW, did you know that LOTR was a fundamentally Christian work according to its author? Would you recommend that non-christians should not watch it?

i would consider watching this as a family because even though i am christian and some of the movie's views may be against my religion, it doesnt mean that its going to be a bad movie. after all, children will be exposed to ppl with different views and opinions every day. by not showing them this movie, it doesnt mean that it doesnt exist, it just means that im trying to hide something from them. that would just be ignorance. children should be exposed to different views on religion, and that doesnt mean that they will believe in them. children should be able to choose what they want to be, and by watching this movie, it definitely doesnt mean that they will now become atheist.

plus, there have been great reviews about the movie.
me and my family will be going to see the golden compass.

of course if human beings carry to a cheished concept and that's attacked then they does no longer be at risk of assist it. people who're asserting it relatively is in basic terms a action picture in all probability at the instant are not conserving reliable perspectives of Christianity. If something they have been into replaced into attacked they could no longer elect to assist it the two. i desperate this week that i does no longer spend money to be sure the Golden Compass. no one instructed me to do this it replaced into my own decision. If yet another Christian is going to be sure the action picture it relatively is as much as her or him. i does no longer tell them they'd desire to no longer see it. i could basically tell them what i be responsive to approximately it. it relatively is a topic remember for a man or woman's very own conviction as a results of fact the Bible would not restrict a beliver from seeing video clips frequently. they could evaluate further. I even have examine a number of articles approximately it and seen the promo (the 1st 5 minutes) and that i be responsive to adequate to be responsive to what it relatively is approximately. Animals are stated as demons interior the opening intro of the action picture. Animals that are depicted as pets or buddies are being exceeded as as a demon which might make youthful childern greater accepting of the assumption of demons. If there is an prepared boycott so what? Is there no longer freedom of the clicking and freedom to no longer partake in a number of that press additionally? If this action picture isn't a large financially grossing image then it is going to convince some action picture manufacturers to no longer make those styles of flicks. I basically desire people who boycott have their very own pesonal be responsive to-how with regards to the action picture in any different case they won't look that rational to protest something they could no longer understand.

As a theologian and a staunch Catholic, I seriously doubt that MY faith is so feeble that watching this movie would constitute a threat, so having enjoyed the trailer, I'll go see it.

That being said, however, I would NOT recommend it for young children, nor for fundamentalists. It will probably raise questions that they are ill-equipped to answer and that might cause a crisis of faith. Poor babies.

I'm an atheist, but I enjoy movies and fiction with religious themes. The Divine Comedy is one of the most beautiful pieces of work Ive ever read, even though I vehemently disagree with the theology behind it. Why should it be any different with Christians?

Well, I'm a historian and yet I still enjoyed Braveheart (which is grossly historically inaccurate), so I don't see why I shouldn't enjoy The Golden Compass even though I'm not an atheist. It's fiction. It's meant to entertain. I don't have to agree with it.
