the ancient world abounded with traditions, prophecies, fables and myths of miraculous conceptions and births, long before the Christian era, and the virgin-mother motif is common enough in pre-Christian cultures to demonstrate its unoriginality and non-historicity within Christianity. In early Christian times, Mary herself was believed to have been born of a virgin, which, if taken literally, would represent a virgin birth prior to Christ, rendering his own nativity unoriginal and mundane, rather than miraculous and divine. One source of Mary's immaculate conception was Christian writer and saint John of Damascus (c. 676-c. 754-787), who asserted that Mary's parents were "filled and purified by the Holy Ghost, and freed from sexual concupiscence." Concerning this matter, the Catholic Encyclopedia ("Immaculate Conception") states that "even the human element" of Mary's origin, "the material of which she was formed, was pure and holy." In other words, Roman Catholic doctrine dictates that, like Jesus, "the Blessed Virgin Mary" was "conceived without sin." (Hackwood, 17) In order to maintain the "uniqueness" of Christ's virgin birth, however, this contention regarding Mary is not taken seriously. What it proves, nonetheless, is that fabulous Christian claims are based on pious speculation, not historical fact, speculation by the faithful that changes from era to era, depending on the need.

Are they just lying to themselves? Even the 'shaky' stuff. You cant honestly tell me that you believe it all 'on faith' and feel like you're gonna get some reward for that... If any God would want followers that do not question, and find stuff out for themselves, that are just mindless drones; then I would not want to follow that God.
Questioning is what makes us human. We THINK about things, thats what puts us ahead of slugs. If we didnt question, or think about things, we would never advance technologically.

If you follow that line of thought, it might make sense, as Eve eating that apple gave us the ability to think. Then thinking is bad. Then why dont all the extremist christians live as Amish, with no technology? If you dont like thought, or that people are thinking, then you shouldnt benefit from other peoples thought. To do so would be hypocritical.
If you dont trust scientists, then you should be sceptical of anything a scientist created, such as antibiotics to save lives.

I'm sure everything in nature doesn't happen by chance. If everything happens by chance, then the odds of having a ripen fruit would be one over a trillion.

A girl in southeast Illinois received two days of detention for giving two of her friends goodbye hugs after school was over for the week. According to her mother, they were not full-on hugs but merely throwing her arm across her friends shoulders and giving them a squeeze. If the girl refused detention she would have had to serve two days of suspension.

Her school's handbook PDA policy states: "Displays of affection should not occur on the school campus at any time. It is in poor taste, refects poor judgment and brings discredit to the school and the persons involved."

Your thoughts?

I just watched it. choppy at first, but it was great after a few minutes. worth it totally. They play a little fast with the facts, but there isn't much wrong with the message. The similarities in world religions are illustrated in a bad a** way. You are forced to think conspiracy or supernatural. I have loved conspiracy books for over 15 years now. ...and even I can't buy into a religious conspiracy especially when it is dipicted as being so miraculous. I mean MIRACULOUS!. It sort of make a case for the supernatural. Then it switches into high gear once it thinks it has you on this earth shattering belief reorganization. Every conspiracy I have read about for years comes at you fast. Much of it is as true as the nose on your face. Some of it requires that certain liberties be taken. no pun intended. So, if you watch this, you will have something to look at in the sky on Dec. 26, 27, and 28. That's great and I did learn something.

i had to ask one more time....because i have some math this time. elephants are huge. their poop should count as 10, but i only counted it as 1. is there anything on the bible about what noah did for 40 days? because i don't think he was ever NOT holding a shovel.

wikipedia lists 5400 species of mammals alone....times two because there were two of each animal. thats 10,800 mammals (not including birds, land reptiles, insects etc). if they each take one dookie a day....thats 10,800 dookies....divided by 6 (number of humans) and each humas is cleaing up 1800 piles of poop/day. if you are awake for 16 hours in a day, thats 112.5 piles of poop/hour. and this is not human poop....but large animal poop. i think they just had to grin and bear it...no?

I've been thinking alot about how God knows the "big picture" and we can only see a small part of it.... and how we need to trust him and know that everything happens for a reason. Do you know of a bible verse that talks about that?

thank you all! God bless!

If I go to the hospital and they ask that question about if I want a pastor, preacher ect to pray over me if I am about to die and I say "No I am not a believer" they look at me weird.
Also people I know have actually said to me "Gee I thought your were just Christian" and act all surprised when they ask me to church or bring up religion.
Why do people act this way? It is assumed that everyone believes in God?
