A girl in southeast Illinois received two days of detention for giving two of her friends goodbye hugs after school was over for the week. According to her mother, they were not full-on hugs but merely throwing her arm across her friends shoulders and giving them a squeeze. If the girl refused detention she would have had to serve two days of suspension.

Her school's handbook PDA policy states: "Displays of affection should not occur on the school campus at any time. It is in poor taste, refects poor judgment and brings discredit to the school and the persons involved."

Your thoughts?

Next up is public displays of mirth. Smiling and laughing should also be stamped out, as such obvious displays of 'poor taste' and 'poor judgement' will no doubt be corrupting our youth and lessening the seriousness of schoolwork.

But lets not stop there, lets put them all in straight jackets and keep them in rubber rooms so that there is no chance whatsoever of physical injury.

Now thats the right way to produce healthy happy children without any of those pesky lawsuits. Education? Whats that got to do with anything?

These administrators are bureaucrats looking to control everyone and show how important they are. Also, they are practicing CYA (cover your rear end) so parents can't sue them, complain to the school board or challenge them in any way.
They weren't thinking anything when they gave this girl detention. God forbid that a teacher gave a student that kind of hug! It's all gotten so absurd. My son got a detention in 3rd grade for kissing a girl on the playground. These days, they probably would have taken him to juvie for sexual harrassment. How absurd can it get?
