Are they just lying to themselves? Even the 'shaky' stuff. You cant honestly tell me that you believe it all 'on faith' and feel like you're gonna get some reward for that... If any God would want followers that do not question, and find stuff out for themselves, that are just mindless drones; then I would not want to follow that God.
Questioning is what makes us human. We THINK about things, thats what puts us ahead of slugs. If we didnt question, or think about things, we would never advance technologically.
If you follow that line of thought, it might make sense, as Eve eating that apple gave us the ability to think. Then thinking is bad. Then why dont all the extremist christians live as Amish, with no technology? If you dont like thought, or that people are thinking, then you shouldnt benefit from other peoples thought. To do so would be hypocritical.
If you dont trust scientists, then you should be sceptical of anything a scientist created, such as antibiotics to save lives.

We live in a world full of scientific creations. There is more evidence around you to trust science than to distrust it. Why deny it, because of some book written by a man in ancient times?

It has to be willful ignorance. But that is what I am saying, why try and spread the word if you dont believe it yourself?
I care because I see it in the news, and still get bible pushers at my door. I don't understand how people can believe something that they should be able to see flaws in.
I am curious. I dont want a fight, it's my nature to question everything, and so here I am. I just dont get it, so I am asking questions.

quote "you're just exposing your ignorance on matters you obviously know nothing about!"
um, hello? Why do people ask questions? They ask about things they dont understand, and from where I am standing, and what I have been taught in bible studies classes for years, a lot of stuff just doesnt make sense to me. Dont get upset at people questioning - that makes no sense either. Unless it makes you question things you dont want to be questioning, then you shouldnt be in this category answering questions about it.

I'm sorry if I offended, it wasn't my intention, and I thought as adults we could get past the lack of some punctuation, as I can only use 1 hand to type, and can barely see my keyboard.
But I used the word "fantasy" because you dont walk outside and see seas parting, or people walking on water every day, so you therefore must imagine/fantasize about it.
Plz dont focus on pedantics, I am using english to get a point across, and some may do it better than others,

i agree with you man. like i said before i read and read the bible until i read myself right out of religion. if more people really read the bible maybe they would also. for about 2 or more years i ask and question lots of 'men of the cloth' about things i found in the bible and even though they tried to explain many things away; finally i just got a thought do i believe what 'they' are saying or do i go by what i am reading.
honest to 'god' when one goes by what they are reading then it [the bible] just doesn't add up. there are so many things that does not point to a loving god.
am i the only 'christian' that see all the contradictions in the bible. or when the preacher says to check out what he is saying do you just read the scripture he gives or do you really check out what the bible says in whole.
if you do not want to cause controversy in the church like i did then i recommend that you do not do this. but if you are serious about what you base your faith on then read the book the whole book.
you may think you do not need my opinion here, but some of the Evangelist on television that i try to warn is now being investigated for defrauding money from people.
i guess i said enough. so i will leave it to the christian to read his/her own bible.

These are the kind of questions that god believers attack because it seems sincere. You're not like the other atheists that post here and seem to just want to get a rise out of Christians. And I agree with everything you wrote. Science is a word used increasingly by Christians to denote some kind of entity that is in competition with their god. All science is, however, is mankind's area of exploration of the principles of the universe. Exploration, understanding, learning, questioning...these are all exercises that represent opposing forces to religion that ridiculously believes it already has the answers. Religion was beneficial for primitive man because it enabled us to become civilized and have an accepted standard of behavior. But we have long since passed the time when that kind of primitive behavioral control is beneficial. Now, it only serves to restrict the flow of information and ideas that allow us to progress. Religion is anti-progress.

Considering many things science proves are mentioned in the Bible, it not hard to understand. When man thought the world was flat, the Bible already said it was round, an orb. When man thought nothing he could not see could not exist the Bible told how to protect from germs. But, when God created science and physics, He did it for man to enjoy learning of creation. But, scientists want to glorify themselves by making people believe they really discovered something when God already told it in the Bible.
But, it a personal decision we all make, no problem with that. God already said many would fall away, oops, another thing the Bible already said. But, I can respect those who not understand, seems funny though when they come to the Religious section not to believe. Evolution belongs in the Science unless it someone's Religion I guess?
Just another thought, many believers questioned God, that in the Bible and happens today and yourself, you question God right now, He not going to strike you with lightening for wanting answers.

Parents lay rules for their kids to obey. now it is good as they grow that they come to understand why these rule are in place. but it is more important to obey than to question your parents about eveything. right? unless you have some kinda chemical inbalance or someting. and if you want to know why the rules are the way they are you just ask. so what happens when kids are rebellious? now there are horrible parents out there that have no clue how to raise healthy kids. but God is not one of them. i have found that whenever i ask questions to God about something in the end He always proves true. i get the answer as to why? some are obvious some take much study and learning. so my faith is based on the fact that God is real and that He is sovereign. the Bible is an applicable book so the best way to see if what is in it is fantasy or not is to do what it says. do what this scripture below says for 2 weeks, heck, even for one week and then ask another question on YA about it.
matthew 5:38-48 "You have heard that it was said, 'Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.' But I tell you, Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you." "You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

I don't know how or why several of my friends & family believe so fervently in parables, tales & stories written by several different men over many centuries, then put together by the Catholic church, then cut apart & put back together by other sects within the Christian religions - not counting all the "books of the bible" written by women & other men that the various churches didn't feel made the grade based on the criteria they were using to put the bible together - but they do.
I also don't know why when they come knocking at my door & I say I don't accept solicitations they try to tell me they are not trying to sell me something, they don't understand that - yes, they are trying to sell me on accepting something that doesn't ring true to me - so it is solicitation.
I don't go ringing people's doorbells to try to get them to believe what I believe. I think we should each be able to reach our own decisions based on our own understanding of what we've researched, learned, heard about - whatever. Isn't that what religious freedom is supposed to mean?

I can't visualize any beauty in most concepts of spirituality. Heaven/hell, Nirvana and all the hells and heavens, most mainstream spiritual thought offends me.
However, Shinto, Taoism, and Native American spiritualism do not. They paint a somewhat more beautiful and intricate portrait of a spirit world. Does that make them right? Probably not. But it's nice to watch Hayao Miyazaki's works and think "What if?"

The scientific fact (which is a "fact") is not a fact to God. God is the fact. When you dream at night, that is the "fact." And so, now work along those lines and see where you go. The ones who have had healings know the difference between fantasy and healing.

Well i am a devout christian and let me tell you i ask quesitons alot,...i mean alot!! its how i learn
and yes technology has brought us alot of good things...
But it is also taking us to destruction, we are making and using things that are destroying our planet and ourselves, like fast food, cars, cigs.
Science isnt always the same there is always new findings, new answers, corrections to past answers.
Science is a man based search for reason on earth, and was originally started to prove God exists but isnow a weapon agaisnt God.
The Bible Writtin in its Original Aramaic was translated into greek and is 98% accurate to its original
I would believe in something that doesnt change before something that does.
Science is an Oximoron:(

It depends on what you state as fact! Unless you were actually there at the time, no person can say that something is fact, only what they are told. Who says the so called experts are? They are just human like you and me. so just what makes them expert? Just because I look at a rock for 20 years does not make me an expert. Truth comes from within and that is the only truth I believe in.

How can you honestly tell me that Christians never question anything? Surely you're not that uninformed.
Can you tell me with 100% accuracy that my belief in God is "a fantasy"?
God does want us to question and to learn. Many physicians and researchists found cures for diseases through questionning. Many of these were Christians.
You may think I live in a fantasy world because I love God and believe in HIm. I think you're disrespectful; I have never bothered you.
Your rudeness is unbecoming and gives other atheists who are kind and accepting a bad name.
Do you have something against apostrophes?
I'm just wondering, since you didn't use any. Are you afraid that grammar is bad? Do you not trust punctuation?
