Why do black people expect us to call them African American?

Nobody should use the "N" word, it is demeaning. For african-americans/black/watever you want to call them to call there self the "N" word, it is saying they are no good. So by using it you are promoting it. I will personally slap anybody using the "N" word, black or white.
And about the African-American situation, it is out of respect. Some people feel it sounds better and more respectful and some don't. I say cacausion sometimes, sometime I don't. One thing I always do is explain my self, if I did say white or black, I didn't mean it in a demeaning way.

You have to go by what the individual wants to be called. I prefer black but I wont bite anyones head off for saying African American. White people are the ones who like to say African American, Asian American, Mexican American etc... but I don't hear too much European American. Minorities must specify that they are American but white people are automatically assumed to be American.

i hate the term african american. i'm black. af-am sounds too clinical and politically correct to me. a better question is, "why do you feel the need to lump us altogether?" i mean, really, do all white people have the same preferences? nope, so why assume that we do?

I prefer to be called black myself, it's only white people that say African American (and that't cause they want to). Not many black people say African American, unless on tv or something.It's white people that choose to say "white people" too!
