As a kid, I was in a situation where I felt intense distress and terror, afraid to move, with no where to go - I can't exactly explain, but I somehow did run, sort of, it was weird. One minute I was one place, the next I was somewhere else. In the center of it all was Jesus who appeared as a light, which reached out all around for an immeasurable distance. There were many others around him. It was wonderful. It was happy and joyful and I never wanted to leave. Imagine a place, where it is not possible for anything evil to even exist. Where anything evil even remotely approaching would just come apart. Imagine the best memory of your life, the best feelings you ever felt, the place you love the best, the persons you love the most and who loved you best - it was all those things and more. Communication was emotions, not words. I knew it would all be ok and after a bit was sent back to find I was untouched and unharmed and what I feared gone, poof.

I was reading a question about racism against African Americans and a person from India wrote this=
========================================
we indians want white people outta india!!!! these whites try to wear our indian clothes and they look so funny its like putting jeans on a fat pig. white people should be sent to gas chambers. why cant you black people just kill them all please we indians will support you all just get rid of those pale face. they are the only people who have no skin color.
========================================
I am STRONGLY against any kind of racism.
I mean, why can't we all love each other?! Does it really matter what we look like??

What do you think about the persons comment?

Okay, my wife just came back from this conference on "Virtues". I like virtues, I think they are swell. But all the reference material (which cost a fortune, by the way) is loaded with christian concepts. Like the words "faith", "morality", "created", etc, etc. I told my wife what I thought, and she said, "just take out the words you don't like and use the rest", but , dangit, isn't that like taking the flour out of a cake?

Alright so I was creeping on some other questions and since I'm not Catholic I thought I'd ask (Don't be offended I'm truly ignorant of this stuff). So if God is all forgiving and loves his children, why does he send some of them to hell? Doesn't this defeat the purpose of a merciful God? I mean could he not rehabilitate the sinners and non believers with his being all powerful? Make them see the error of their ways? Eternal damnation sounds a little harsh to the outside observer.

There are a lot of good Christians on here who I happen to be very fond of. There are also some first class nutjobs that just manage to give me ammo for obnoxious questions. lol
Have you ever gotten to the point that you just wanted to see how much you can annoy them in return? Good night and pleasant dreams to all, and may the morning find you well.

I believe in a higher power which I call God for lack of a better term. I pray to my God for his/her will to be done. I recently found this higher power after considering myself Agnostic for several years. I don't buy into to Christianity but can't find anything else to relate to. Any suggestions I could look into?

at a church function tonight we had God protesters, after I finished laughing I said I dare you to live your life and let us live ours, why do you ? what I believe in and why does it matter if I am believing in a lie or a truth? It is every man or woman for themselves now, I don't worry what you believe in I am not trying to convince anyone there is a God, if there is Great if there isn't good for you, why are you here trying to tell me my child should be out begging for candy? Mind your own business and get out of here or tell me why you are here, really, are you afraid of my God or what? my answer was some idiot threw a cupcake at me and I poured my water bottle on myself and said now what , they called me crazy and left. so I think they are daring us to concvince them and I wont do that. opinions please,

Are Jews a race? My thought is that no, they are not, but they do in fact share similar genetics and people (such as hitler) have been referred to as 1/4th jewish. This imlpies that being a jew is a race because you can't be 1/4th catholic or 1/8 atheist.

You guys talk to imaginary beings, you terrorize your children with horrific stories of people being crucified, you believe that all people are born as some kind of criminals…the list is endless. Surely you can see that this is definitely not the behavior of sane people. So what’s wrong with being harmlessly crazy? If I was to call you guys dangerously crazy, that would be an insult, but thankfully, most of you aren’t that crazy.

I really want to help them, and I really do care.
I wish they could some how understand me cause they think I hate them and I really don't. It's a huge deal "it really is"cause some of them are good people that just need help.

It's hard to put all you facts here cause every sentence is very important.
Im a stranger taking the time just cause i want to help people.
Atheist are the most important people we should love and help.

Just cause they can't read our mind doesent mean I should hate them.
If they could understand the reason we tell atheist there is a God is cause we care for people....especially them.
God bless atheist.

In the past all kinds of Trick or Treaters came down our street. I gave out tons of candy. This year the street was empty except for eight trick or treaters. I'm stuck with enough candy to stock a 7-11. What happened?

I dont know how many times I have seen lame questions that make it seem like you are a religious fanatic if you dare to question the theory of evolution.
Science itself dictates that you question this theory because it is not a proven fact and there are some very serious flaws in the theory.

Maybe one day the flaws will be fixed. Maybe one day the theory will prove to be untrue. But there is definetaly very good reasons for someone who has studied and believes in science to disagree that evolution is how humans came into being.

Arent you really just an evolution fanatic if you are going to think that unless you believe evolution is 100 percent correct you are an uneducated religious fanatic?

Dont you think you can be completely educated in evolution and still not consider the evidence strong enough to claim that is the only possible way life began and humans were formed?

(and I am not talking adaptation within species. I am talking about species to species evoltn)

In the American south africans were kept as slaves deprived of all freedom and were sometimes treated brutally.
But slaves kept by the jews were "slaves" in a different way.
They were "bond slaves". They were kept as slaves after the jewish had defeated that persons tribe in a war or skirmish. And many of them were let go after a certain amount of years of servitude.
It bothers me how skeptics fail to admit that the apologetics offerered on this issue are strong enough to make the point (that OT slavery is a contentious issue) no longer arguable.

I feel that this Religion and Spirituality category should be subdivided into different categories for the different faiths.

Although I am an atheist, I feel the Christian deserves a forum where they can honestly ask one another about their faith or for scriptures without someone offering criticism to their belief as a whole. The same goes for the pagan who gets told they will go to hell when they ask a question intended for another pagan. Since so many questions seem to be Christians challenging Atheists and Atheists challenging Christians there should be a "Religious Philosophy" or "Debate" category. I feel Atheists should stay out of Christian only questions and Christians should stay out of pagan and atheist only questions unless specifically challenged. Lets live and let live.

What are your thoughts?
Suggestions?

"I would rather have my child dead than unchaste"

I heard, and I don't remember where, that if you are a book believing Mormon, that you actually accept that statement. Is this true?

If I were to say that I was Mormon, Athiest, Catholic, Jehovah Witness, etc..., there would instantly be an innumerable quantity of very intelligent, reasonable people step up to inform me of the error of my beliefs and possible numerical associations of my I.Q. If I am so fortunate as to find favor with my creator upon death, thus dwelling forever in heaven; will I expect an eternity of close-minded intollerance for any opinion of my own that may differ from any other heaven dweller?
Or should I expect all heavenly inhabitants to enjoy identical experiences and thought processes thus eliminating the possibility of differences. Could it be that whatever miniature portion of intelligence I may possess will quickly be taken and discarded preventing any need for an opinion?
I am very curious to hear your thoughts on this matter. Clever insults directed towards me are also appreciated as I find them terribly amusing (and occasionally thought provoking). Thanks for your time!
