In the past all kinds of Trick or Treaters came down our street. I gave out tons of candy. This year the street was empty except for eight trick or treaters. I'm stuck with enough candy to stock a 7-11. What happened?

Halloween was on a weird day this year, maybe since it's in the middle of the week, people had other things going on. Alot of families go to church wednesday nights.

My house didn't get that many trick-or-treaters either.

Well, these days, trick or treating is being pushed to accommodate the child's school schedule or something. Over the past couple of years, I've noticed that when Halloween's not on a Friday or Saturday night, I'll end up getting trick or treaters on the nearest weekend. Being that it's Wednesday this year, it's even worse, because both weekends are just as close. I actually got some kids last Friday, Saturday, and today and I predict this coming Friday and Saturday will bring more little folk. However, it does still seem that, adding all of it up, there are less kids every year, so perhaps the tradition is changing/losing favour? I agree that the whole "stranger=evil" syndrome is probably taking hold, though I can't really argue with the cautious attitude.

Well this question kind of depends on where you live. However, kids may have disliked your candy. Otherwise there are various reasons such as the students have moved or parents are stopping them etc.

Are you sure that your candy doesn't contain nuts or any other things that have high chances of childrens allergies being activated? Personally, the trick-or-treaters for me have been coming for 5 years already.

Perhaps they've found a better street with people who have more candy etc. I'm not sure but theres evidently got to be a reason. Try asking the eight trick-or-treaters where they're friends went?

There are many possibilities out there, just try questioning them. Or if theres a flu going around then they may be staying in. (If you are in Australia HayFever is extremely common at this time) Maybe you should just wait and see next year?

Hope this helps!

In our town, police put out a press release telling families not to get candy from households where they don't personally know the people.

I was happy about it because I emcee the costume contest at our local mall every year, then go hide in my house because I don't want strange families knocking on my door all night begging for things. I love halloween but I'm just funny about people asking for food.

You know, I wondered the same thing myself! I never saw any at all. I'm guessing it must have something to do with the safety aspects of letting kids out by themselves knocking on doors. What a sad place the world is becoming.
