They are demons masquerading as dead people. They do it in order to confuse people and keep them from coming to faith in Jesus Christ.

It is not simply a "religious precept" to believe demons are responsible for many apparitions. People who have had Satanist connections, and then turned to Christianity are fully aware that the fallen angels possess amazing talents. They have the ability to impersonate the dead to the "T". The voice and mannerisms are spot on. Their memory is flawless. They can reproduce conversations and mimic the voices of different people that were alive hundreds of years ago.They love to confuse and mislead grieving loved ones. People are so confused when it comes to the dead. The evil angels have done such a good job and misguiding so many, that belief in a spirit world is the norm. If you would like to know about this type of deception and how one man escaped from assured death by the power of Jesus, read his book. It is called, "A Trip Into the Supernatural" by Roger Morneau. I think you can even find some excerpts for free online. Maybe I can find them for you.

Yes half the answers are correct. There is really no such thing as "ghosts" that many believe to be the dead. They are indeed evil spirits or demons masquerading as the dead. The Bible teaches that the dead know not a thing. That they cannot speak and have no involvment in the affairs of the living. Satan and his agents like to deceive people into thinking they are loved ones, but now that you have this knowledge don't be fooled and put on your whole armor of God when you come across such supernatural forces.

They appear very clear when the sun is active at night because the explosion of the sun energy gives them back some energy to glow in pure form. that is only a theory.

ghosts are earth bound spirits. It's now that they appeared, you have third eye to see them. ghosts can't harm you.
they can scare you if you are afraid. show no fear they will leave you alone. talk to them, they see and here everything you do or say.

First of all, to think they are demons is a religious precept. It isn't common thought.
The theory that makes most sense to me is that it is the spirit of someone who died and hasn't "crossed over" yet. Either it was a traumatic death and they don't realize they are dead yet or they have unfinished business.
Of course we won't ever know until we die those are my thoughts.
Having lived in a house with one, I can assure you, they are real.

They don't exist. They're tricks of the light, nothing more, or tricks of the wind. Your mind interprets things supernaturally because we really do seem to be 'designed' to look at things that way. No idea why.
