C-A-T-H-O-L-I-C meant. I say it meant at the time "pretaining to the holy Augustus Caesar. All the symbols are there... And they did believe he was holy. And his cult did become Christiamnity and the church Roman cathoilc. And he did live in Rome. And he was considered to be holy. And the popes do dress in ancient costume.
If you do not understand the symbolism of Caesars you are in total darkness.

Were these tithing amounts given to certain groups to help certain groups? Is it in the Old or New Testament? Do our present day taxes cover this? Did they tithe money or wheat and chickens? Should we be giving lots of $$ to homeless people, widows, orphans, and the elderly instead? Are our churches supposed to be rich? Dear friend's regional minister has a limo methinks.

I know my grandma is in heaven.

I was very close to me grandma. She helped raise me. Her and my mom had always lived together until my grandma had to go to a nursing home earlier this year because my mom couldn't take care of her anymore.

I was out of town when she died. I had major surgery on 10/19 and she died on 10/22. I was still in the hospital recovering. She was buried on the 24th and I didn't come home until the 26th. I missed it all, but I know she would have wanted me to
take care of myself.

I think it all hit me on Sunday. I cried all day and I can't seem to stop. My mom and husband have gone back to work and my kids have gone back to school and I'm stuck at home alone recovering.

All I do is think about my grandma and the fact that my mom more than anyone has lost such a huge part of her life. I feel so bad for my mom and I don't know how to make it better for her, myself or anyone else. I feel like the one thing that has always held us together is gone

(yes, I know, I'll probably get called a retarded punk again, but I'm in a good mood today.)

DISCLAIMER: I am asking my fellow atheists. I don't need to know what the Christians think we would do or whatever...

I have an 8 year old son. He knows I don't believe in God (though it's okay for him to if he so choses) and he knows that there is no such thing as Santa. I like to put up a Christmas tree anyways because it's fun to pick one out, set it up and decorate it. Am I wierd for this? A total hypocrite? I think it looks pretty with all the presents under it. I put up stockings too. There are no angels anywhere in my decorations or Jesus in the stable scenes or anything like that.

Anyone else? Just wondering.

That is, how did they come up with the pronunciation Yahweh when the original vowels were changed deliberatly to render it unpronounceable? And how certain can we be that this is the correct pronunciation?

This has been something on my mind a LONG time, I've tried researching it, but I've never found enough definitive info to satisfy me, or a straightforward explaination of the whole thing.

Thanks for any info, and God bless!

A Person takes a fundamentalist Muslim and submits them to torture. Person does what is necessary to break the Muslim's will. They then convince them that Jesus and Christianity is the truth. The former Muslim now truly, really truly, believes in Jesus. There is no doubt in anyone's mind about that.

So a soul is saved, albeit in an unconventional way. Let's say you repeat the process hundreds of times. Now perhaps God may have a problem with that person's actions, but the net result is a saving of let's say 1000 souls at the expense of one.

Would that be acceptable? Why or why not? Shouldn't 1000 souls saved make up for the one lost?

I was reading in the Bible where it says if a girl goes into the city (a girl who is already engaged to be married), and she is molested there, or a guy has sex with her; then she must be executed, as well as the guy, "because she cried not."

Question: Was this rule decreed by God, or just by Moses?

Question: Was this rule actually enforced?

Replies from Bible scholars and others appreciated.

For me I would say....

best - I really see the good in every person. We all have it, and have some much untapped potential.

worst - I tend to over analyze things and end up making matters worse.

Jacob Boehme, the 15th century Christian Mystic said," A Christian is he who lives in Christ, and in whom Christ's power is active. He must feel the divine fire of love burn in his heart. This fire is the Spirit of Christ, who continually crushes the head of the serpent, meaning the desires of the flesh. The flesh is governed by the will of the world; but the Spiritual fire in man is kindled by the Spirit. He who wants to become a Christian must not boast and say : I am a Christian! but he should desire to become one, and prepare all the conditions necessary that the Christ may live in him. Such a Christian will perhaps be hated and persecuted by the nominal Christians of his time ; but he must bear his cross, and thereby he will become strong."
