Yes it can! I had open heart surgery and had a near death experience. They had to take my heart out to repair it. I was on a heart lung machine longer than excepted. My being left my body. In my experience my spirit did leave my body!

When you, an Invisible Spirit, leave your Body (not in death now!) your Soul has to go With You!
As Long as the Silver Cord (Ecclesiastes) isn't Broken, your Body will Stay Alive while you and your Soul are Out of It.

The answer to this is yes the soul leaves the body every time we lay our heads down to go to sleep .Astral projection is really the ability to remember our little journeys on the higher planes.The soul on its own plane is at a very blissful state and will forever will be as this is its nature.

Yes. When you go to sleep you die. ALLAH(SWT) takes your soul away to either Heaven or Hell and sometimes he will keep your soul with HIM so you won't wake up in the morning. ALLAH(SWT) also chooses to resurrect people the next day by letting their soul go back into the body. When you sleep your body is on Earth but your soul is somewhere else.

If a person's soul separates from their physical body, then they are dead.
