It really depends on the movie. Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween, Friday the 13th are all out. The sexual content is more of a problem than anything else.
Poltergeist, Exorcist, and the Omen all have kids in them, but really can frighten kids as well.
Stick to action flicks. Underworld and Firestarter are good, and last year I saw Stephen King's Cat's Eye with a 9 year old and it went over well.
Stick to the kiddie genre if all else fails, like:
Little Shop of Horrors (80's)
Hocus Pocus
Little Vampire
The Wizard of Oz
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
E.T. The Extra Terrestrial
Haunted Mansion
The Nightmare Before Christmas
Corpse Bride
Casper
The movie should be more spooky than scary, and age appropriate.

well, i am 20 years old and scary movies scare the crap out of me!!! i absolutely cannot watch scary movies!!
so i think if your kid is under 10... maybe give him like a "scary" cartoon movie to watch.. i still like those.. like alvin and the chipmunks they've got a special halloween movie (can't remember the name)
i would think at an age like that thye would probably get really scared watching something scary.. i'm pretty sure they would want to anyways. i remember when i was younger i would beg my parents to let me watch scary movies, but after watchign them i have horrible nightmares and i wouldn't be able to sleep in my room for a while.... so yea i wouldn't do it if i were you

No, it's just wrong to expose kids to violence, gore and the supernatural before they've been taught some sort of reasoning and coping abilities, and especially if you don't have such skills either with which to instill upon them.
Such horrors, just like horrors in real life, could very well create post traumatic stress problems, and depression. Who needs that? Kid's certainly don't need any more problems to deal with as their education is sub par to begin with.
For people who say their kids are fearless, I say they're pretending to be fearless because they see how proud it makes their parents. Inside they're horribly scared and confused. If adult soldiers get PTSD from the horrors of war, you're little ones aren't going to fare much better in the face of senseless murder on screen.

Break out the kiddie ones unless they can tell some specific movies they want to see. If they know about them, I think they've seen 'em. But even I would draw a limit.

Depends on the movie, the old horror classics, Frankenstin, Dracula, Wolfman, are great for younger kids. Hostle, Saw, Texas Chainsaw, no way.

At that age, you pull out the classics, or you get out really bad B movies. :P Will be plenty scary enough for kids that age. Once they get older you can start subjecting them to the Child's Play Halloween Marathon. *lol*

Sure, I let my children watch scary movies. My children aren't afraid of anything. I have one that will be 20 on Halloween and one that is 5. Good good luck. 2D
