I was on a school trip today and we went to the Cathedral of St. John the Divine and I noticed in 3 spots there was a pattern of 7 candles. 2 structures that resembled menorahs (and obviously were not since it's an episcopal church) and 7 candles hanging down from the ceiling in a similar style. When I asked my teachers none of them were sure and I couldn't find anyone who had much of a clue. Any help?
A photo of the candles. It's on the left and you can just see the mirrored one on the right.

I can't remember where the bathroom is in the middle of the night, when I'm not home. I've bumped into the wall too many times in hotels and other discrete places. Call me an*l, but I carry a night light with me everwhere I travel.

The US has laws against cruel and unusual punishment in our constitution. The worst of the worst of our criminals are treated in a humane fashion and even if facing the death penalty it is carried out in the least cruel fashion possible.

Why do most Christians seem to have no problem with the torture of the wicked with fire for eternity when even in a fallen world we would not do such a thing?

Eternity is a long time folks.

example: blacks telling jokes about blacks, whites about whites, hispanic about hispanic etc.....

For myself it seems as I get older the jokes just are not funny anymore. Maybe I should loosen up,but It's not entertaning.

How many jokes can you tell about a ethnic group. Not to mention most of the jokes are based on sterotypes.

Revelations is but a poem of lament after the Romans destroyed Jerusalem in 70 AD.. Early Christians expected Christ to return sooner rather than later and to save Jerusalem from destruction from the Romans. Thus, Revelations the poem was written. Each of the gospels has some poetic license built in though - each gospel was written for a specific community at the time: each gospel is a Christianity marketing piece with historical information included.

Agree or not Agree ?

4:157 . That they said (in boast), "We killed Christ Jesus the son of Mary, the Messenger of Allah.;- but they killed him not, nor crucified him, but so it was made to appear to them, and those who differ therein are full of doubts, with no (certain) knowledge, but only conjecture to follow, for of a surety they killed him not:-

This verse says they were made to believe a lie.

600 years man was made to believe a lie.
What happens to those who believe the lie born and died between the crucifiction and the time of Muhammad?

Can Allah righteously judge those who were born and died believing a lie Allah made them believe?

Was it right for Allah to deceive them their entire lives? Even before they were born?
Isn't it obvious this could not be true?
The true God sent word of the coming Messiah that he would atone for sin thousands of years before the birth of the Messiah.
Is it reasonable to believe he changed his mind and deceved generations of people?

I saw another user post this comment and I wanted to hear your thoughts. I personally believe this is true and I find it ironic that they help out someone so much that they do not believe in.

I do not fault atheists for this. They are doing what they "think" is right. It is completely unintentionally, but if you think about it, Satan's biggest goal is to get people to reject Jesus and well, what are atheists about? No God.

Your thoughts?

One time, I worked with this lady, she was my age, which meant she should have "it" together by now. She told me she was from Minnesota, pronounced Men ahh soooh TAH. Well, being the friendly guy that I am , I told her I was born in Texas, pronounced North Mexico. So for the next month, every day when I went to work, she would say "Steers and Queers, Steers and Queers, nothing else comes out of Texas." Well I had heard this only several thousand times in my life, and yeah, it's kind of cute the first time. But on and on, day upon day, this lady went on. It started to eat at me and turn me to a dark side of myself that I don't like to look at, and I devised my evil plan. I thought about Minnesota alot, for a couple of weeks. Then, she said it again, and I pounced like a tiger on prey. I said, "You moose chip collectin, igloo dwelling, Prince listening, metal helmet with horns wearing, malumute mushing, cheese eating, daughter of Norwegian bachelor farmers." She cried. Later, so did I.

Is tipping a pet sitter common practice? I have a pet sitter who takes care of our 3 small dogs when we take extended weekend vacations. She charges a daily rate, but I wonder if I should also be tipping her, too (15-20%)? She is the owner and only employee of her company, so I don't know if that matters. If you are a pet sitter, I'd also love to hear what you think. Thanks!

for some reason in Isaiah 14: 12- 16 and Ezekial 28 : 12 (B) - 16...People don't want to think Lucifer is who we now call Satan. Why is that? Lucifer was cast out of the mountain of God .Jesus said"I saw Satan fall like lightning". Isaiah says "How art thou fallen from Heaven?..."
What's the problem .It is Satan, get over it.He still has acess to heaven on a temporary basis (Zecheriah 3 and Job 1) but some day Michael will thrust him out for good.Of course ,then all Hell will break out on Earth, but that's for the book of Revelation!

Halloween is my favorite holiday. I'm fourteen, but I can't seem to accept the fact that my childhood is over. Am I too old to go trick-or-treating with my friend? I know most parents hate the teenagers who smash pumpkins and push little kids around, but my friend and I aren't like that. We just want to go trick-or-treating, because it's a fun tradition for us. Would you, as a parent, be annoyed if I showed up at your door on Halloween? Am I too old already?

i want to know how you can take specific ideals or values from other religions and compound it into an unoffensive, completely free religion. if any one has any suggestions about which religions to "borrow" from i'd be honored to hear about them. and please...no "your going to hell for blasphemy" responses. I WILL REPORT IT AS HARASSMENT.
