When I was younger, I lived in San Francisco for a couple of years. I loved living there but I was really poor & struggling, though I enjoyed my life well enough. On Sundays, with nothing else to do, and not wanting to spend money, I used to take walks along the waterfront, my Marina Green and the SF Yacht Club, enjoying the beautiful bay, the cries of the seagulls, views of the Golden Gate Bridge, etc.

At the yacht club I'd see these incredible huge boats, and I got to thinking that these boats were probably worth more than I would ever make in my entire life. Once or twice I felt a twinge of jealousy for people who could afford to have boats like this. And then I got to thinking, all these boats were there every Sunday. None of the people who owned these boats were out on the bay on this beautiful Spring Sunday afternoon! And why not? Because they were all busting their asses to make money, more and more money, that's why. They were either working overtime to make enough to hold onto this boat, that they really couldn't afford, or else they were tired of this boat and wanted a bigger one and were working for that. I really found this food for thought.

Much of the trouble we have in the US is because nobody thinks he has enough. The richer and more powerful a person is, the more deprived he feels and the harder he works to make more! Look at Bill Gates, likely the richest man in history, but instead of traveling and relaxing and doing what you or I might do with 60 billion dollars, he spends his days plotting and scheming to get more and more, even if it means cheating the people who are forced to buy his software. He doesn't believe he has enough!

So yes, the secret of happiness is to realize that 'enough is as good as a feast'. It doesn't mean you don't work to better yourself, but if you're not happy with what you have, you won't be happy with more!

I like it.
I think that greed is the cause of much unhappiness in the world.
TO some people, they can never have enough material things. Those are what matters the least.

It is nice. I prefer this one.

"A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold." - Proverbs 22:1

I agree with that completely. Happiness and comfort can make one feel rich.

When I can meet my needs, with a little left over for fun stuff... that's enough for me.

This is the Abundance teaching. If you focus on what you don't have, you will get more of what you don't have. If you feel you have enough, you will get more of having enough!

This is simplicity {see answer on link}. We are rich when we learn the difference between need & want. & even then we need very little really. Thanks
