It's my last name on Second Life - I can spell it, but how is it pronounced?

I've been saying it "see-AW-lin" but is that right?

That's all I want, and I'll turn on my sinful ways and believe in "Him."

Or is it just maybe he doesn't exist, we're all just an accident yet to be explained by science, and thus there's no proof?

most atheists i have talked to had a similiar path to their beliefs:

were raised in religious/semi-religious families and at around 10-13 started to question these beliefs

has anyone here been a very religious person later in life and then switched sides? has anyone been a convinced fundie and then given up?

The richest, most succesful country in the world lets it poorest citizens die through lack of universal medical care. Europeans can go into hospital, be treated and leave without paying a cent; all funded through taxes but saving each country a fortune with a healthy population. Their doctors are top earners and worth it.
Why do Americans have to suffer?

...and have ceased to use the toilet. I'm in my mid-20's. At work it's no problem since I work in a saw-mill, and no one can hear them, or really smell them. The bathrooms there are disgusting, so it's nice not having to use their toilets. I wear overalls anyway, so no one can really see them. No, I don't have a medical need; I just wear them because they are MUCH more convenient, and very comfortable. There have been a number of studies recently, showing it's much healthier for your bowels and bladder to wear diapers and just go right when you have to, rather than holding it all day until you can get to a bathroom. Society tells us we have to use the toilet. I say, why should I have to? So, what's wrong with that?

I just found out my cousin is pregnant. She got married a little over a month ago. They both work low paying part time jobs with no health insurance. She said she was using the "rhythm method." Apparently, it didn't work.

Yes, she waited until marriage to have sex...but couldn't she have benefited from a sex ed class that taught her a little more about pregnancy and adequate means of contraception?

“There is strong reason to believe that St. Paul fabricated the belief system of Christianity from Zoroastrian mythology. In order to hide Paul’s plaigerism… Christians burned the library of Alexandria in 390 A.D. Books in that library kept Mithra’s original story of what Pauline Doctrine is an almost exact copy. (George Sarton , Introduction to History of Sciences) ,

“The son-ship of Jesus Christ is the greatest fiction of human history.” (Lord Bishop of Canterbury Commission, the Spiritual Head of England, 1910.)

“The son-ship of Jesus Christ, the Trinity, the blood sacrifice of the lamb of God, atonement are not the teachings of Jesus. These are all inventions of Saint Paul who never really met Jesus.” (Hastings Rashdall, The Theory of Good and Evil)

My nephew asks me questions all of the time that I can usually answer with no problem. Today I was sort of shocked when he came to me and asked how to get his classmate from calling him names. I was about give him an answer when I remembered what used to happen after someone called me names in grade school. It was never pretty and I always ended up in the principals office after they would pry me off of the person. I always got suspended too which was never fun (Had 2 deal with my mom's anger the entire time) I didnt want my nephew to go through all that or have all of that stuck to his permanant record so I told him id talk to him about that later today. What do you all suggest I say? Thanks in advance~

This is the scenario that will play out for you and your family (and has already played for many others around the world) if the terrorist are left unchecked. So my question to you all is this will you convert to Islam and swear allegiance to Alla or loose your head?

the bad words we were punished for saying when growing up...the f word, b word, d word ect. are profane language. but according to my insight i believe these words are only bad b/c society has put it into our head that these words are not to be said in public and especially in front of children. granted, most religions tell you not to say cuss words, or to not speak blasphemy, but how are the common cuss words blasphemy? now, i am not a fan of cussing and rarely do it in fact, but why is it wrong? i feel all it does is put more emphasis on what you are trying to get across. ie. instead of saying "i am really mad at you" you could say "i am f*&^%$# mad at you"....same point coming across but just more emphasis i feel. if you have any insight on this topic i would love to hear it. i would also love to hear what authority says that the common cuss words we say are actually profanity. thanks.

i'm not 100% sure that's what he's attempting, but i figured i'd ask anyway. he knows i'm a pagan and at first he didn't seem to have a problem with it(he's christian.) but today he asks if i'm really an atheist, so i politely corrected him and told him that no i'm a pagan, and i believe in something, just not the same that he does. after that he asked me how that's working out for me. so i said it's good, i feel pretty at peace with what i believe. then he asks me to read a bible passage and tell him what i think about it later. he already knows that i was raised catholic and chose to believe something different. if he's getting at trying to make me believe that again, what's the best way to tell him no thanks without killing the friendship?

ps-don't tell me i need to be converted, unless it make you feel better. but i still won't.
