Yes. As a female, I make a point of holding the door for both men and women, and when I get a "thank you", it's nice! Because there have been many times where I've held the door for people and they just walk right through without saying a thing, as if I should roll out the red carpet and be honoured for holding the door for them. It's so rude!
Oh boy, don't get me started. Common courtesy in general doesn't really seem to exist very much anymore.
I don't get it. I can't walk through a door, after having someone hold it for me, without saying "thanks" or "thank you".
Honestly, manners and common courtesy have flown the way of the do-do bird.

Teacupn has the right idea! It shouldn't be a gender issue; a door isn't that difficult to operate, nor are doors heavy -at least not modern ones, I guess the thick wooden gates of old could be. I've had male friends who insisted on opening the door for me even if they had to rush past me if they had been walking a little behind, or if they were having their hands full so they'd end up struggling with the door and half blocking it. That's *so* ridiculous, etiquette should make life more pleasant, not more difficult!
Modern door etiquette should be, whoever gets to the door first holds it for the person who comes next, and whoever has their hands free holds it for those who are carrying stuff. Regardless of sex.

Well I do not miss the good ole days, because men and women still hold the doors. I can not remember any man ever going thru the door and letting it close on me. It must of happened but not enough to make me miss it..lol..

GENTLEMEN still DO hold doors, including my 19 year old son. Men who don't do this are rude. Polite women hold doors too, for whomever is coming in behind them, for mom's with strollers, for the elderly, etc. I agree that there are some men out there who no longer act mannerly, but I wouldn't bother with them. Having manners and acting in a civilized manner are what makes us different from wild animals.

I hold doors open for women all the time. I miss the good old day's when I didn't have to listen to some woman ***** at me because I did this and then try and lecture me on how she doesn't need my help.

I find the other to be true. I have found that guys of all levels of life hold doors for me and I always say thank you for it. There is the occasional dolt but really, rarely. And I hold doors for everyone if others are following me through as well.

I really miss that I have a great guy that loves me very much but there are things I would love to get from him like openning doors, little love notes, and just to listen.

Letting a door 'go' into the face of the person behind you is rude, but most people are pretty courteous, male and female and hold the door for whomever is behind them. We can all be 'gentle-people' for each other. That's the better way.
