A poster asked about Hitler's romance with Martin Luther's racism, and I'm afraid that when I saw 'Dr. Martin Luther' my knee jerked. My answer was seriously wide of the mark, and I apologize to the poster and to R&S participants. I deleted my answer.

God's plan was for Jesus to come to earth and be a sacrifice for our sins. In order for that to happen, certain events had to line up. Did everyone involved really have free will or were they predestined to fulfill their part in God's plan?

- Judas betrayed Jesus to the Romans. If he hadn't done this Jesus wouldn't have been crucified and God's plan would have failed. Did Judas really have free will or did God intend for him to betray Jesus from the start?

- Pilate chose to have Jesus crucified to please his subjects and let the theives go instead. He could have chosen differently, but then God's plan wouldn't have been fulfilled. Did he really have free will or was he predestined to fulfill this part of God's plan?

Do you think that God has a plan for the rest of us, and if you do, do you think we always have free will or are we sometimes predestined to do certain things that will lead to other events that God has planned for us?

So, since all of them went to their bloody deaths claiming to have seen the resurrected Christ and claiming that he performed all the miracles reported in the Gospels , why would they have done this if they didn't believe it was true? People die for their religious beliefs all the time but not if they are positive that it is a lie. It would be very obvious it was a lie if they had stolen the body or participated in some sort of scam but would they die for a scam? The fact that none of them cracked and said they were lying must mean they were pretty convinced. Were they convinced by some elaborate scam or did they see a miraculous life, death and resurrection? What do you think? I would appreciate well-thought out, respectful atheist responses for this. Would you die for a cause you didn't believe in? What would it take for you to do so?

I have a friend who is way too clingy to the point where I would consider ending the friendship. I have known her for almost 2 years. From day one she has acted like we were better friends than we actually are. She is a likeable person but just can't seem to figure out that my life does not revolve around her. I have 2 kids & am married. I honestly don't have the time, nor am I interested in talking on the phone with her everyday or seeing her several times a week. We honestly don't have a whole lot in common & she has personality traits that really get on my nerves. She calls a few times a day, almost everyday. She drops by all the time. Invites herself to stay for dinner. She can't seem to solve even the simplest of problems & is co-dependant on me. She has to call me about everything from a disagreement w/ her husband to telling me about a dream that she had. I'm honestly sick of it. I rarely answer the phone when she calls now. I know it sounds mean but she is driving me crazy!

One of Jesus' claims was that he had the authority to forgive sins and that simply by believing in him we could have that forgiveness. There is a lot of peace in knowing that all my sins are forgiven . To obtain this you need only to confess Jesus as your Lord and savior. You don't have to follow a whole lot of rules or do a lot of works. Salvation is by grace (a free gift) and by believing in the completed work of Jesus of Nazareth, the Messiah, who rode on a donkey into Jerusalem exactly on the day prophesied by Daniel.

What are some ridiculous rules that the Catholic Church has made that you personally don't think God would agreed with. They can be recently made and rules that were first created in the Holy Bible.

No offense intended by this question.

If there absolutely is no god, then how did the universe come to be? you see, you may think you have all the answers, but you do not have this one. when I would ask you this question, you would reply as: well there was this huge "bang" and then we somehow got here because the "bang" was so big it made the universe. well, what caused the big bang? exactly. you don't know. i'm not saying positively that there is a god, but I'm saying you must be retarded if you say one cannot possibly even the smallest chance exist. everything is possible.

“But they (the world) will do all these (persecuting) things against YOU on account of my name, because they do not know him that sent me.” (John 15:21) Who sent Jesus? Jesus in prayer to his Father said, “This means everlasting life, their taking in knowledge of you, the only true God, and of the one whom you sent forth, Jesus Christ.” (John 17:3) And did not Jesus say, “‘Our Father in the heavens, let your name be sanctified (or King James Hallowed)”? (Matthew 6:9) If we understand who that Father is and call or pray to him with that Hallowed Sanctified name will he answer use if we want to do something special for that Hallowed name of his? If Jesus put that name first should not ALL Christians? Did Jesus ever say Hallowed be the Fathers name, Hallowed be the Sons name, Hallowed be the Holy Spirits name? And is there a name for the holy spirit as there is for the Father Jehovah and Son Jesus? If they are all equal where is the equalitarian in names to be Hallowed? Jesus was sent?

A married man befriends a woman and will not tell his wife about her.

She has no interest in a sexual relationship and makes it clear to him.

He makes her aware he is interested in a sexual relationship but will abide by her wishes.

He stops by her workplace often and they have hung out afterwards to talk about personal issues and discuss political points of view.

She likes his career connections and nothing more.

She does not encourage him, but does not demand he leave her alone either.

He called her one day to ask if she is in town (her job sends her away often).

Right after that she receives a wrong number call. A woman asks her “Is this the cell phone of Christopher James?”

You have the wrong number she says.

The woman firmly asks again the same question.

He stops by later that day.

She said nothing about the phone call to him.

What is your opinion about him and her?

If his wife follows him to see her, do you feel she is at fault in someway?

Is their friendship even an issue that one should be concerned about?
