So, since all of them went to their bloody deaths claiming to have seen the resurrected Christ and claiming that he performed all the miracles reported in the Gospels , why would they have done this if they didn't believe it was true? People die for their religious beliefs all the time but not if they are positive that it is a lie. It would be very obvious it was a lie if they had stolen the body or participated in some sort of scam but would they die for a scam? The fact that none of them cracked and said they were lying must mean they were pretty convinced. Were they convinced by some elaborate scam or did they see a miraculous life, death and resurrection? What do you think? I would appreciate well-thought out, respectful atheist responses for this. Would you die for a cause you didn't believe in? What would it take for you to do so?

I think people aren't seeing the difference. Jonestown and all those type of incidents were people who were being told to believe this or that book as is the religious wars but the apostles claim to have actually seen the stuff later written down.

It means exactly what it looks like it means: They saw something so Earth shattering, so mind-blowing, that they simply could not keep quiet about it. They did not fear death in the least...and that's just not the way it would have gone down if they were all conspirators just trying to con the world. They should have cracked, they should have broke down and confessed that the whole thing was a hoax. They did not because they could not. They saw the real deal, and they knew it.
God bless.

"Their have been twelve apostles recorded in historic past to be with Jesus, and 11 of them have been killed for coaching approximately Jesus." Um, no. They weren't "recorded in historic past". See, this is the difficulty with the variety of bullshit declare. in case you modern it like that, people will immediately think of "he says it with such self belief - it must be actual, no one might say something which would be so particularly veryfied until it have been actual". Which that's no longer. we've not got any solid evidence even for the existence of those people. yet hello. enable's say that Jesus incredibly had twelve apostles, and that they have been killed. have been they killed by way of fact they claimed Jesus had risen from the ineffective and might quickly return to choose all of them? Strongly no longer likely. Peter curiously grow to be crucified in sixty 4... over 30 years after Jesus died. by ability of that factor, he might have in many cases happening that Jesus grow to be no longer likely to return decrease back 'quickly', and actual no longer as quickly as he had claimed (specifically, so quickly that Peter and the others may well be no longer able to pass to each and all the cities of Israel until now his return... and Israel is relating to the scale of Vermont). a lot extra in all probability that they have been killed for preaching precisely what Jesus preached: don't be egocentric. don't be materialistic. don't be judgmental. don't be proud. The efficient and smug would be overthrown, and the vulnerable and humble would be lifted up. Preaching which would be sufficient to make people hate you presently. this is the clarification so few television-preachers do.

The bigger question is how to people who think that the apostles made it all up, that Jesus Himself made it all up...explain how a bunch of illiterate fishermen from a backwater place like the Galilee ever come up with a "scam" that could fool the entire Roman Empire?

I think we have fallen into the "You got to show me first, before I believe it" catagory. As you have seen, everybody tries to make excuses. First Jesus never existed, then it's the apostles never existed, then it's Josephus never existed. Note that these are all jews. hmmmmmmmmm. Maybe that's the problem.

If they were part of the scam, then it is highly probable that they really didn't die . . . if they ever even existed at all. This story is the stuff of myth and legend - not real history.

Your source for their deaths is the same as your source for his life. So there is no reason to believe that is true either.
