Why, or why not?

2007-09-11 10:01:54 · 7 answers · asked by Graham 5 in Religion & Spirituality

Are you flying your flag? I am. I find it scary that in the weeks following 9/11, stores were running out of American flags, as everyone had one hanging on their house, car, or apartment balcony! Now, you hardly see any on this day. It's shameful. I am also wearing red, white, and blue today. Later tonight, I will light a hoodoo candle and ask that the dead rest in peace.

Okay, so, say theres a family dog who has cancer or any other disease, and he is certain to die. If it is okay, and kinder, to put a dog to sleep, to save the suffering, and to let it die an unpainful dignified death without suffering and pain, why is human voluntary euthanasia illegal?? It really doesnt make sense to me that what is fair and right and legal for a dog is not legal for a human, and a human who actually wants it. The human who craves a dignified unpainful death is forced to suffer and die months later in absolute agony, while the dog got the better deal. Of course i wouldnt want dogs to suffer, but i dont want humans to suffer either. I think its ludicrous. Who agrees or disagrees with me? And why?

Here's two examples that I know of:

Mendel, a monastic priest, discovered genetic inheritance. He's also known as the "father of modern genetics."

Late medieval age monks copied many of Aristotle's and other Greek philosopher's work which were later distributed amongst the commoners which led to a secular humanist movement. The secular humanism movement was one of the precursors that started the Renaissance.

It seems most places you go, either in RL or on the internet, religious criticism is met with much the same reaction as if you'd just admitted you murdered someone. Even a rational criticism of religion, such as pointing out that there is no evidence that supports the existence of a god, and even less to justify specific god beliefs, is met with hostility, and sometimes threats.

We have all of these shows about fat people like "Biggest Loser" and that new show where fat people walk 500 miles...and they are rewarded with prizes. A couple of months my mother told me about an Opera episode where this fat guy always wanted a Porsche, but he was so fat that he couldn't fit into one! So he lost a ton of weight, and Oprah bought him a Porsche. Don't get me wrong, I think it's great that these people are losing weight, but why should they be rewarded for allowing themselves to get morbidly obese in the first place? I've never been fat, because I bust my butt in the gym 4 nights a week...Where's my freakin Porsche? Do you think that fat people being rewarded for being fat is right or wrong? Your thoughts please.

Why do people join an answer forum and then ask questions and lie like crazy. I just don't understand that. Just one example here...they will ask questions saying they are a virgin and you look on their profile and there are questions from them stating they are pregnant and looking for baby names. I could just go on and on with examples but I will spare you that. Sometimes it makes me feel foolish when I have honestly answered a question and then I find out it was just a bogus question. It just makes no sense at all to me...does it to you?

Today, being the aniversy of 911, i woke up with a strange feelings. All day I seem to feel such a deep sorrow in my heart, as if I was grieving for a lost father, or wife. It is hard to explain the sorrow, it is pure pain, as if I watched someone else die right in front of me, as if I was, idk, in just pure grief. I didnt lose anyone to 9/11, but it feels like it, I also has a actual feeling, it feels that i have been having huge weight upon me, as if a ton of bricks was put onto my back. Like a phyiscal weight. I woke up with this heavy feeling. Help?

sell bibles? It's kinda like they're profiting off the word of God, in a way. and we all know that about 60% of that money does not go to charities and such. it goes to getting the church better bathrooms and getting the pastor's (or preacher's, or priest's, i can't remember which at the moment) car washed.

lol, if you take offense to that last part, just answer the first part. don't ~you~ think it's weird that churches are profiting off the word of God?

How would you react?

NOTE: I do not wish to get into the hows and why's it was invalidated. That's not my question.
